E-Brake issue "clunking noise" when pulling the e-brake while rolling.

E-Brake issue "clunking noise" when pulling the e-brake while rolling.

My FRS is about 4,500 miles, and yes i've drifted pulling the e-brake occasionally. Lately I've been hearing a clunking sound when I pull the E Brake while rolling.

I took it to Toyota Kearny Mesa San Diego, and there policy was that they could were not allowed to pull the E brake while rolling??? because that is not the intended use??? they took it apart, the technician told me the brake shoes were glazed and worn. but everything is normal and functional. So I took it on a road test with the Tech and was able to reproduce the clunking sound. He said there is nothing that can be done about it because it still works while parked (intended use).

My question is what is that noise? Is this an issue that Toyota should address? should I get aftermarket E-Brake Shoes? that noise is scary and I am searching for answers.

Seems to be normal. It bites hard, and that's all we care about, right?

The real question here is why didn't you find some way to bring it up without letting on that you're doing handbrake turns.

The way I'm reading the OP:

"I raped my stock rear e-brake system and I want Toyota to pick up the tab to fix it all."

its very annoying when rolling through a less than perfectly flat drive-thru line at say In n Out. I dont like standing on the brake pedal so I use the ebrake for that. Each time I slightly engage the ebrake while rolling it lets out a nice THUNK which is more audible from outside of the car. Kinda annoying, but then again this is a cheap car, I think we will have to live with it.

I have the same sound. Figured it was still just "breaking in" but it hasn't gotten better.

Is In n Out your hot pit after a 30 minute session on track?

I didn't tell them that I was pulling the E Brake while drifting. I didn't want them to have an idea that I was abusing the car. But still the car is only 4500 miles. And I only did it a few times. .

Hmmmmmm

Only gotta do something bad once to risk warranty. Dealers and techs aren't stupid

Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if the ECU's logged the fact that you pulled the e-brake hard enough to lock the tires while moving at speed.

Remember, there's only ONE way to glaze brake pads: overheat them, badly. How do you overheat brakes? By overusing them... and they don't generate heat if being used as a parking brake.
