Dealer called me this morning and told me they had a 10th anniversary edition. I'm surprised they told me that considering I told them I only wanted red.

The price was the base price of it plus $699 Toyoguard (almost unavoidable for southeast dealers anyway), $73 cables, and the all weather mats. Then there was a $799 ResistAll package which they refused to take off, so I basically told them just charge me for it and don't touch the car at all beyond the PPI when it arrives.

Honestly it essentially amounts to an $800-$1500 markup but w/e at this point, I don't have a problem going with Orange to end my hold out for bRed. Just hope the color doesn't look like absolute garbage in person.

It should arrive around 1/15. If a Track bRed pops up between now and then I'll be tempted to back out of the order and then just do a charge back on my card since they said that the deposit is non-refundable. (Joking about the charge back, but I don't know, we'll see.)

I personally think at MSRP the tenth anniversary is overpriced compared to a premium.

I think you're definitely ending up with an orange car but I doubt you'll regret it, congrats

With not even a BBK I definitely agree. Easily.

I only went with it because I didn't want to wait any longer and also would ultimately have wrapped my car orange anyway so it saved me some money haha. I'll likely wrap it another color way down the line if I ever decide to go widebody but for now I'm good.

I'm happy with either Orange/Red, just anything except for a neutral color or blue lol.

For sure. I don't think so either. They all drive the same too at the end of the day!

Been getting several calls offering the 10 year anniversary in automatic. They must’ve just dumped a bunch in the US.

Depending on the specific time limit for your particular card, you may not be able to anyway.

After all of the nonsense I went through this summer with the GR86 dealer holding my deposit and backing out after the car came I am still peeved about the entire deposit/allocation thing. Since then prices on the GR86 have gone up even more and inflation has had a big impact on cars overall.

I would rather have a GR Corolla than a GR86 though because I have a kid, but those prices are flat out ridiculous. Like you I have been looking at American cars too. Really liking the 2017 Camaro SS 1LE because you can get it for the same price as a new GR86 and it is a superior car. For awhile I was even thinking about an '04 Z06 as well and having another car for the kid. I've even entertained a '22 WRX since you can get them under $32 for a Base and $34K for a Premium. There has to be a way to get one close to the GR Corolla's performance with less than $10K of mods. I can't justify spending $50K or $60K as I have seen advertised for a GR Corolla. I would buy a used GTR before I did that. Oh well, with the economy the way it is I am not in a rush to buy anything anymore.

Have fun with the GTO. That's definitely a car worth keeping as we transition to EVs. I've owned a couple of LS1/LS6 powered cars that put smiles on my face every time I drove them. The rawness of an LS V8 is unforgettable.

How are the manuals still in such short supply at this point?

Very simple.

The majority of the Toyota version sold are automatics (that's what Toyota buyers want), while the majority of the Subaru version are manuals. The same was true with the first gen.

The last numbers that I recall seeing were for Subaru the manual take rate was nearly 80%, while for Toyota it was like 1/3.

Fair enough but doesn’t explain no MT cars for 500 miles of houston. I’m not expecting 20 86s sitting on every dealer lot but something has to be up as supply chain issues have clearly eased off.

This may have been true for first gen. I think it skewed that way partially because it was a lot easier to move automatics to non-enthusiast types later in the run.

For GR86, the demand has been far stronger for manual. I can’t get exact stats on my phone, but more than 80% of 600 people who “ordered” one wanted manual per GR86 .org survey. Seems Toyota is still taking its good old time reconciling with that fact.

Isn't that really 80% of enthusiasts on an enthusiast's site ordered one with a manual? That represents about 5% of GR86 sales in 2022, and while a decent sample size, I have to wonder if there were any controls on it.

Toyota sold 11,996 GR86 in 2022, while Subaru sold 3,345 in the US. 480 (80% of 600) represents about 4% of overall Toyota buyers. I'm thinking Toyota doesn't have much to reconcile, they know their buyers.
