I spent some time yesterday at my local Toyota dealer. I brought my car in to have have it relearn the TPMS sensors in my winter tire/wheel setup (after the tire shop I frequent informed me that their tool wouldn't work on newer Toyotas).
This is a well established Toyota dealership operating out of a brand-new facility they built just this summer. The enormous, sparkling new showroom was completely empty- not a single car in sight. The equally enormous new lot was nearly empty as well, with whatever new and used inventory they had parked out at the perimeter to give the people passing by on the highway the impression they had plenty to choose from.

My friends sister said it took her 4 months after deposit to get her Rav4. Now my aunt wants one and they are telling her 4-6 months if her "reserves" one now. So they have a list of wants coming in at least.

When I asked yesterday if they knew anything about the GR86, they didn't know a thing about getting the cars. I mentioned that it was suppose to come out in December. They said when Toyota says something like that, they don't see the cars from up to 1-3 months.

Premium, manual, silver. Red was my first choice but did not want to risk not having a car ready for next track season.

On a side note, a silver limited brz silver is sitting on a dealer lot near Boston in case anyone is interested.

Not sure who here is on the FB group.

But anyways I’m sitting here with a Toyota sales manager and got to check out the Allocation for SF region so far. Sorry I don’t know the exact cars each dealer is getting but I did see that there are ZERO Premium Manuals. Everything is a base car or a Premium AT.

Total allocated so far are 24 units

Walnut Creek
SF Toyota
AutoNation Hayward
Vacaville
Folsom
Roseville
Lodi
Elk Grove
Fremont
Magnussen Palo Alto
City Toyota
Santa Cruz Toyota

Way more but I’m 100% sure those were on the list

Darn. A few were allocated today on the west coast, but they were all base and 6at. Don’t think any allocated today were MT on the west.

Lol I got some emails from dealers saying hey we got the exactly wrong car you asked for, want to pay 5-10k markup? Talking automatic base in other colors.

Seems like a trickle of cars coming in, the word with Subaru isn't much better, seems like dealers are going to try and make as much as they can on each one given the slow supply.

Who knows though, maybe the floodgates will open soon and the market will get overwhelmed with supply, not like there are waiting lists for pretty much every car in demand.

But then consider Toyota could literally just focus all their production efforts in producing RAV4 hybrids and primes and that would easily keep them busy through next year catching up with demand, so I'm not holding my breath for surplus 86 stock (at least on desirable configurations) for the near future.

Boy I sure do regret putting down a deposit to get in like for one at MSRP, lol.
