hahahahahahahh. I needed that.

I ordered a 1997 Chevy pickup the last week of December 1996. 97 model was to be the last year of the first gen small block Chevy. Spring 97 UAW went on strike for 4+ months. I got the truck July 4th weekend. BUT they had been delayed so long GM actually made the 98 model the first gen SB and the LS came out in 99 instead of 98. I am still pissed about that.

The dumbest wait for a new car... It's like they're trying to hide the poor sales numbers of the final two years of Gen 1 by making the Gen 2 a "sellout" due to complete unavailability.

(Yes I know it's supply chain stuff)

Does anyone have any information on productions or delays? I have a 2nd deposit at another local dealer waiting for it to be allocated/order picked up. It's been a few Months.

Will it be 6 months or should I expect it by Fall? I really want this thing but I can miss another season.

What "poor sales numbers"? The numbers impacted by a worldwide pandemic and supply chain issues even in 2020? The sales numbers that are pretty much in line with the reduction of sales of every car made for those years?
The planned production was sold. If the numbers are lower it is simply because they made less per their plan.
Mustang sales dropped by 40,000 units in the same period they must be getting ready to drop it!

Fun how so many make up some total bullshit to try to rationalize something they have no clue about.

You've entered a lottery. You might get an allocation this week, maybe next year. If you've got deposits in early with big-ish dealers, I think your chances are good you'll get a '22.

I'm learning now that the dealer in some ways needs to actively work to get you an allocation. Every 2 weeks the "order books" open and they have an opportunity to barter/trade their allocations with other dealers in the region to try and get what their customers want. I really don't know much about how that all works, but I think (hope?) they're limited to what they can do there, and it's mostly up to Toyota to give them allocations to match their customers preference requests.

Seems to me the guy is frustrated, similar to me, being kept in the dark and fed shit like a mushroom you tend to start feeling some negative things toward the source of your suffering. First world problems.

I recently put down deposits with a few more dealerships with small or no wait for the spec I want.. probably still more likely to get the car from my original dealer but it was refreshing to talk to someone who actually answered my questions and enlightened me a bit on how things work. Hopefully one of them can get me the sale - karma etc.

Well don't feel alone. People have been waiting months for basic appliance cars and lots are still empty. It isn't the sale people or dealerships issue and they are in the dark as much as you are.

2022 GR 86 Orders /Reservation /Waitlist Chat

At what point are you better off ordering a BRZ when the 2023 orders open in ~July? If Toyota will string you along until past October, there’s a good chance you’ll get into a Subaru sooner than a Toyota.

Ha, right? I haven't thought much about it since their customer orders closed long ago (about a month after I put my dep. down and just before I started to realize I was in for it) and I don't think they'll start taking orders for '23s until late summer. I would think there will be a line to get in for that too, will be a huge crush of orders when it opens. I'll keep doing the Toyota bi-weekly dice roll until I get lucky.

Not sure Subaru will be any faster.
We are now on week 15 of the "3 to 4" week wait for the wife's new Ascent.
The update from the dealership on Friday can be summarized by "It isn't built yet. We don't know when it will be built. Stop asking every week. We will let you know when it is here".

Did you get an actual date? My 2022 BRZ arrived 1 week after the date they originally projected. They also idled the plant for a week before it was built so their initial projection was bang on, even in 2021. FWIW, is was pretty much 12 weeks on the dot from the time I got the date.
