We’ll, my dreams of getting the excact color that I want (Halo white) have been crushed. My impatience has paid off. I have my deposit down and made it a couple weeks ago. I asked my salesperson yesterday how’s my allocation going. He said there hasn’t been one allocated for me yet because there are 3 others ahead of me with that same order. I’m concerned that it won’t be until mid-late summer until it comes. He also said that there were none out there to trade with so I decided I’ll take the steel one that comes in middle February. In premium it looks good with the black accents. There you have it.

I have an allocation question. Every dealer around here is marking GR86’s $2-5k over MSRP. My local dealer that I’ve been talking with will charge me MSRP for the car. I miss the days of getting cars at invoice but I guess those days are gone. Is anyone getting a deal on these cars or are we stuck with MSRP or higher right now?

They told me I can put in for an allocation with $500 down for the color and trim I want but I have to sign a purchase and sales agreement. Is this normal when getting an allocation for a car? I’m not new to buying cars but new to putting in an allocation order.

Signing anything scares me but they claim the $500 deposit is 100% refundable whether I decide to buy the car or not. If that’s the case, why would I have to sign a purchase agreement? Is that normal? I’m going into the dealer this Saturday to talk with a sales person. My conversation with the dealer has been through email so far.

Is the API query page not working for anyone anymore, or just me? Was hoping to see the status changes for my car, but it's now producing a 403.

My local dealer has an allocation and put an order in. He changed the color to Neptune blue while on the phone with me. Soon as order gets confirmed he will call to get paper work done. He said late March or April. Crossing fingers...

They must see that people are hitting it without having a pass through from a dealer website. That ticks me off. That was the only way to see what’s going without hassling the dealer

You can be at ease if you’re getting it at MSRP. Getting much or anything below that is exceptional right now, anywhere.

What I’ve been told regarding deposits: when you put a deposit toward an ordered car, your info associated with that payment confirms to Toyota that the order is coming from an actual customer and not just that dealership trying to get more cars allocated to them. Indeed, Toyota would most likely disregard any order without a payment that verifies it as coming from a customer. And yes, it should be refundable. I think the main point of a signed agreement is so once it comes and if you still want it, you’re stuck paying whatever price was agreed.

The bad news is that there is no guarantee your dealer with get an allocation that matches your order any time soon. Could be months.

Just make sure the paperwork uses a phrase like "refundable deposit" or some such and you'll be covered.

Good to know! My initial ETA was Dec 20-26, still waiting, also not in a port but not a whole Canada away from one, haha.

I don't know why some dealerships are telling me that Toyota is not doing special orders right now due to COVID, but some dealerships are doing special orders.
