@Yoshoobaroo do you have any more tips on how to get the backing plate off? You mentioned there are 2 clips that need to be pried but I think there are 4? And I’m not even sure if the 4 I’m working with are even the correct ones.

I feel like if I apply anymore pressure on those clips I’ll break something.

Is this the clip I should be prying down on? It doesn’t seem to want to move in any direction.

That is indeed the catch that holds the back shell on. You can’t push it down, you have to pry the back shell up.

Here’s what’s underneath:

When removing the two tabs (they are close to where the wires connect to the harness) make sure to cut the zip tie holding the wire to the harness. Once that’s cut off, and clip released, the backing comes off easily. Good luck!

Completed my install last week. Did a canyon run and very happy with the “track” mode. Not once did it kick in on my drive where it has always intervened before in Sport mode.

Oh ok, so small screwdriver in between the 2 halves and then pry it over the catch? Thank you so much.

Is this required for install though? I’d like to leave all factory zipties intact with this install it at all possible.

I couldn’t get the backing to release until I cut that zip tie. Easy enough to just re-zip tie afterwards. Trust me, I was stuck on this step for a while too wondering if I was targeting the right clips.

Also, when you say “There is another lock for each individual pin, use a small pick to disengage and pull pins 27 (pink) and 32 (white).”, do you mean there is one lock for every pin, or there is one lock that controls all pins?

Are these lock(s) on the top or bottom (wire side) of the connector?

Once you slide the pink tabs over and remove that back cover , it enables you to then detach each pin by sliding a needle or something similar into the holes above each of the pins (connector side, not wire side). Then you tug on the applicable wire to pull it out.

It’s a little catch that’s part of the metal pin. You should be able to see it and get at it with a small pick.

DIY: Track Mode on 2013-2016 cars

Thanks @HSC
If someone can upload some pics of the pin pulling I can add them to the DIY. I didn’t think to take pictures when I did the repin last year and my memory is fuzzy on the actual pin catch configuration.

Thanks for the help guys but I’m still having an extraordinary amount of trouble. I try to stick something into the hole above the pin, but the wire just won’t come out. Is there a clicking sound or something when the “catch” is released? How much force is needed to release the wires from their hold?

I’m starting to wear out the holes above the pins with the tools I’m using.

Thanks again

So am I pushing with the needle while pulling with my hand? I’ve inserted a few different tools but unfortunately the wire is stuck in there. I’ve probably tried about 25lbs of pressure on the wire to pull it out but I obviously don’t want to break it.

How deep does the tool need to go in before you hit said catch? I can’t see anything in there but what I assume are copper connectors. 2 of them in each hole.
