FWIW I'm still here, still enjoying my 2019.
It's natural for passion about something new to fade over time. The first gen cars are no longer 'new.' We're all still driving them, but are now past the dating and into the marriage part of our relationships. One of the annoying things that keeps me from coming here more often is the agonizingly slow response time of the forum. Any thread or sub-forum I click on takes a full minute or more to load (no, it's not my hardware, a year old MacBook Pro). The site has gotten arthritic in its old age (like me). Also FWIW I've toyed with the idea of getting a second gen car, both for the extra power and to have what will likely be the last BRZ. Went to look at one a couple of times, but, fr whatever reasons, it just didn't grab me. Styling is purely a personal thing, but I think the first gen car is better looking. I can also do without the atomic rocket bunny side sills of the second gen car. For the money it would take on top of mine to get a new one, I'm just keeping mine. |

My car's over 12 years old, has 82K km on it and the mods didn't cost that much less than the new car itself. I am actually happy that the appraisal value on my car is low and adds nothing for the mods. My insurance for seven months per year is only $57/month. As long as I have a place to park it indoors, I'll keep it. The only anticipated expense would be tires next year, with 245/40-17 rear and 225 in front, Pilot Sport prices have goon through the roof. Eventually brakes and possibly clutch down the road. I wonder how bad the factory diff and tranny oil are at this point. Coolant seems fine, after all it is Toyota supercoolant, AFAIK it never needs a flush unless it gets contaminated.

I'm planning to drive mine into the ground. Now at 155,000km and counting.
Hoping the engine lives past 200k. FA24 will likely go in once the time comes. |

have a 2015 and just went over 100k miles the other month. Daily drive and car still runs like a top. have only changed tires, brake pads, clutch and fluids. engine is still strong as well.
when you don't beat the car like it owes you money and do the maintenance it runs amazing. Last edited by e_lunatic; 06-30-2024 at 10:55 AM. |

Earlier this year when ,my engine blew, I debated with myself (and wife) whether to get a 2nd gen or stick with my 2013.
For me, the main reason to get a 2nd was the increase hp. I do like the new car smell but not the new car taxes and insurance. Plus: I've done quite a few tasteful and maybe a few not so tasteful mods to my car. My wife really doesn't mine what I drive as long as it doesn't break down too often and then too, she's happy not to be spending an extra $20k So, for somewhere near $10k, I'm getting a (hopefully) drop in ready FA24. It's supposed to ship on Monday. |

Part of the relative quietness on this forum might just be human nature. When the 'newness' of something wears off, so does the excitement. The first gen cars have been around for over a decade now. Maybe it's just the slow flame of a marriage, rather than the roaring bonfire of early courting.
Another thing at least for me is the bugginess of the forum. Many times I've tried to long in only to find a 'down for maintenance for 30 minutes' notice, which lasts for days. Much of the rest of the time it takes several minutes for the screen to refresh when logging in or just opening a subforum or thread. It naturally gets frustrating, and diminishes participation. I for one am still loving my 2019. I toyed with the idea of getting a second gen car, it being the last BRZ and all. But the couple of times I've looked at one, it just didn't push my emotional buttons. Yes more power and all that, but to my eyes, doesn't look as appealing (the atomic rocket bunny side sills don't help). My meager little 2019 has more than enough power by my personal butt-meter, which is the only measurement that matters. I don't time 0-60 runs at each stoplight, and don't care about Nurburgring lap times. If it feels fun for me to drive in the seat of my pants, then it's good enough for me. Which my 2019 more than is. Drive on... |

I'm at 118,000 km & still love this car.
Did many lapping days, not so much anymore but part of 2 autoX clubs, keeps me busy. I'm about to retire. What a great little car! |
