Who would collaborate with Toyota on this product? They don’t make sporty cars anymore on their own unless it is a homologation special like the GR Yaris.

This project is long dead. As discussed years ago it was not to be anything but a Japan only car even if they did move forward on it.

His source being bestcarweb.

Which if I'm not mistaken is almost always wrong, judging by any of their articles over the years about the shooting brake twin, turbos, different engines in the "next" twin, etc.

Yeah, Bestcarweb basically throw as many rumours at the wall as they can and see what sticks. The thing is, like a broken clock they are right now and then, through the sheer amount of (usually contradictory) rumours they publish.

Until we see patent filings, spy shots, and video footage of test mules driving around, believe none of it.

I was fighting some redditors about this the other day. They insisted the guy who made that video is a legit vlogger.

I said, his only source is bestcarweb, which is hardly a "source". A source would be like he has a contact at a JDM tuner who got early access and somehow leaked some stuff. A gossip rag is not a "source" lol.

So just reading some blurbs elsewhere, seems like due to Daihatsu's recent safety scandals, Toyota has decided to restructure and absorb Daihatsu into the fold and the brand may be killed off soon. And pretty much like Scion, the existing cars are going to be killed off when their production run ends, or they will be turned into Toyota's. This is where the Starlet and SF-R rumors are coming from. Daihatsu was mostly a small car brand now so something of theirs would transition into the starlet, and the Copen is suspected to be reborn as the SF-R.

And its not like Daihatsu wasn't a somewhat redundant brand already, they have a few products that were already rebadged into Toyotas.

Isn't the Copen a kei car? I was under the impression that the S-FR was physically bigger than a kei car.

oh your right...

Maybe it'll get reborn bigger to not be a kei car....

Assuming there is truth the point still stands that Daihatsu has an existing 2 door roadster that they could use to revive the SF-R (which was curiously sized identically to an Miata)

wouldn't comparing by wheelbase make more sense? I'd figure the length as described there would be including fascia.
