Riding along another owner made me realize how capable our cars are and how much of a powerhouse the platform is at these events. I threw myself into it by going full TC OFF, I wanted to see where the limit was and boy did I find it on my last lap, last turn (Spun Out).

Even though I was pretty bummed out about coming in 2nd on my class, the loss and the trophy labeled "Almost First Place", which only dug the knife further, is only fuel to be better the next time.

I'm counting the days until the next one. I did get multiple owners recommend a better set of tires and camber adjustments.

I'll be posting the video soon.

Stickers, man. You forgot stickers! JK. That's awesome though and the video makes me so jealous!

So I am looking at a dedicated set of tires for Auto-X DD during the summer. My options are:

Conti ECS2- $205/tire (Tire rack Recommended)

Bridgestone Potenza Sport - $214/tire
Bridgestone - Potenza RE-71RS 257/Tire
Firestone - FIREHAWK INDY 500 - $164/Tire
MPSC2 - $297/Tire
MPS4 - $259/Tire

Any thoughts?

The only tire on this list that is a proper 200tw tire is the RE-71RS. If your goal is the best grip you can get in a tire you can still drive to and from the event you want to look at the extreme summer tire category so 200tw.

I think the class leader at the moment is the a052 from Yokohama. The RE-71RS is a great tire as well !

If you find these to be too hardcore for your use case you can step down to something like the Poteza race,Ad09,continental extreme force. They won't give you the same amount of outright grip but should last longer and have better wet performance.

Just keep looking around tire rack has loads of great videos on YouTube and tirerack.com

Have you, thought about MPSS or MPS4S? MPSC2 are supposed to be brilliant but don’t have the tread-wear, especially if you are DD it in summer. I have MPSS on mine and they lasted ages, brilliant tyre. I was nearly going to buy MPS4S this time around but the guy at the shop talked me back into MPSS and they were cheaper.

So if I do a search on Tire Rack, I should be looking at the Extreme Summer Tire, correct.

I'm basically looking for something that can perform well at Auto-X, while still being best bang for buck around town, highway. I don't expect it to last as long as an All-Season tire. But at least decent life.

I can give up certain commodities like road noise, which to my understanding the RE-71 is pretty awful at. So I'm hesitant on that matter, the biggest thing would be rain, because it does tend to rain quite often where I live since we are so close to the ocean.

I see the;
Pilot Sport Cup 2 - $297 94Y

Pilot Sport 4 - $259 94Y

Pilot Sport 4 S - $236 94Y

Pilot Sport 4 - $236 91W

Pilot Sport PS2 - $226 94Y

What is difference between all of these, I hate it, plus Costco just has them as "Summer Tires".

Going from the link you shared there is 15 tires in the Extreme Performance summer category. TR should have comparisons for most of them.

As for the Pilot sport question.... PS4S would be the best and newest most of the other tires are just older lol. The ps5 is also good but the ps4S is still more "track focused"

I run the PS4 non S myself and it's fine but it's nothing to write home about and I am planning to upgrade to a Potenza race. If all I cared about was outright lap time I would grab the A052.
The PS4S is stock tire on the gr86 by the way.

On the topic of rain all of extreme tires will be "fine" As you look at the comparison videos you will see some are better than others in the wet.

I think the Potenza race and AD09 are pretty high when it comes to wet grip.

The 94Y vs 91W, 94 vs 91 is the load rating on each tyre, the W and Y is the speed rating. No idea about the PS2, but the PS4 is a performance tyre and the PS4S is the higher performance (more track focused) one of that and the successor to the PSS (Pilot Super Sport), the PS4S is one below the Cup 2, but more “streetable”. Knowing how good the PSSs are I’d get the PS4S.

BTW Michelin’s naming convention around these tyres is confusing, PS4S (Pilot Sport 4 S) is basically the Pilot Super Sport 2. They should’ve just called them that.

They did have a comparison feature. Looks like the Top.5 are

1. Hankook Ventus R-S4
2. Dunlop Direzza ZIII
3. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2
4. Falken Azenis RT615K+
5. Toyo Proxes R1R

hmm that seems very dated not sure what you watched but here is the latest stuff from their youtube page

Last year

A few solo test. They have a lot more on their youtube

Race

extreme force

a052

Its not the end all be all but hope it gives you an idea. I am pretty sure most Autox people run the bridgestone RE-71RS or the a052a when it comes to track driving the tire choice varies more.

Looking forward to hearing what other think
