Pretty sure that is what happened here. Think the owner had a knocking engine, local area had some high water after some storms, put a hose in the intake and viloa...insurance paid it out.

but the real issue isn't the repair. it's the long term issues. the insurance company is looking at the long-game.

from their perspective, if it went through water deep enough to lock up the motor, there's a high possibility that other electrical connections within the car were effected, but aren't effected yet.

and because most insurances guarantee the work for the life you own the vehicle, the risk of repairing it, and then needing to re-repair it later on due to the impending corrosion problems later on could make it too great of a cost to deal with.
