I wanted to like this, but I really don't. It isn't eligible for the tax incentive which means it contains foreign battery parts (it does qualify under a lease), it has the fake exhaust noise turned up to 17, and it's best angle is looking down on it from above.
I will give them credit for a relatively standard interior though.

They don't care. The outgoing ICE version was between 4000 and 4500 lbs.

I'm sure they're really hoping it will take off. Stellantis is seeing some hard times these days. Jeep literally went bankrupt in China not too long ago. And the inventory of super expensive pickups trucks in North America isn't moving as needed.
Fuel in Canada is around 25% more than in the US, thereabouts. Couldn't imagine spending $200/wk on gas if commuting with a Hemi. I'm over speed now and prefer comfort for a daily.

iirc Fisker states that their roof solar panels on average will add approx 3 miles per week to your range.
So, from a practical perspective they don't make a huge impact. Maybe more so if you live in a high sunlight area and don't park under a cover often, maybe help to compensate for the extra energy required for climate control in hotter climates. Incidentally, the Fisker Ocean seems like a decent package IF they finally get their software all up to date and don't flash constant errors on the IP display as they have. Not sure if the 2.0 update was released yet but it seems this should have been ready before hitting the market if they want a good start in the battle of electric startups. It sours what might otherwise be a great customer experience. Electrification forces people to learn an almost entirely new automotive industry. Like an iPhone with wheels. Or in my case, Google Android.

If you don't mind quarky, and the possiblity that it may never actually get delivered, the Aptera may be the vehicle you want if you want to charge solar directly on the car. They claim you'll be able to use only solar panels on the vehicle if you have an "average" commute. They even have a calculator for you to figure it out.
https://aptera.us/savings-calculator/ They also have an awful website.

I think they did a good job making a successor. I don't really have any complaints. Straight six turbo offering is pretty sweet too. Bring back the slant six.

3 miles a day in normal weather conditions, or when parking out in death valley?
These guys tried the solar EV, it's small, it's literaly made out of solar panels, they haven't built a single one yet, and even them are limiting expectations to about 10 miles per day: https://europe.autonews.com/automake...pite-inflation Re the charger, I like it, but 5800lbs?! Plus, it's huuuge, and as tall as some crossovers. |
