And EV price declines in the new car market have pushed down the resale value of Hertz’s used EV rental cars.
Hertz business model takes into account the resale value of the car. When Tesla dumps the price it screws with their model. Has nothing to with it being an EV and everything to do with market pressure.

If Toyota suddenly started selling new Camrys below the price Hertz bought them for 12 months ago, Hertz would be doing the same thing with them.

Hertz, frankly, should have known better. EVs were bound to start dropping in price as scale of production moved up, particularly with Tesla in the mix. Their whole business model is to drive down cost, followed by price.

It's what Henry Ford did. The price of a new Model T dropped by 68% from the first year $850 price to the $260 price 19 years later at the end of the run. That last year you probably could have bought a 10 year used one for pocket change.

Spoiler: "Hybrid Sodium-Lithium with novel undisclosed material" battery is what Microsoft's AI discovered would be best in terms of price and performance.

So apparently Musk was right that the US has all the lithium we would ever need. Just one area of California to be exact.

The Salton Sea has even more lithium than previously thought, new report finds

“It’s going to be roughly the equivalent of 382 million electric vehicle batteries,” Prisjatschew told me.

There are fewer than 300 million cars and trucks registered in the United States today. So yeah, that’s a big deal.
The Salton Sea could produce the world’s greenest lithium, if new extraction technologies work
