[QUOTE=Ashikabi;3501400]20k later

New, old stock FA20 long blocks are about $9k from non-dealer sources. If I remember correctly, the price through a dealer is at least two times that.

So unless the FA24 is coming from a crashed gt86 (IAAI had one a couple of weeks ago), the longblock alone would be over $20k through a dealer.

I hope I’m wrong and that Subaru/Toyota sells the new engines for more reasonable prices ala spec Miata motors through Mazda’s racer support program.

To be fair, Mazda Motorsports pricing is a beautiful gift that seems unmatched by anyone else. Man, the bodywork prices and shipping pricing on them... perfection.

I assumed the motor was from a wreck. I'm assuming the swap itself with a "free" motor will still cost an arm and a leg. Probably a few fingers too. It's not like a 90s Honda where literally everything bolts up and you just have to swap a couple connectors.

Isn’t there a guy here that has $40k in a car and the shop has had it for a year? They just keep charging him for stuff

Honestly wouldn't surprise me. The LS swaps have all the bugs worked out and still cost a small fortune

Honda sells the K20C for fair prices, but not like Miata, who has stated that racing and replacement parts has done a lot to support and justify to the bean counters the continued existence of the Miata.

I wonder what happened to that guy. I did see a somewhat same story on Cars and Bids. It was a 2018 BRZ with less than 20K miles with an LS swap. Didnt make the reservation but the background story was similar, owner purchased vehicle and immediately went for the swap.

LOL, just boost you're FA20 and move on. More power, less headaches than a full swap. Want to go crazy, swap in the WRX block with lower compression so you can play with a wider range of boost, and put in some good rods like Manley or Skunkworks. IAG uses Manley and only does oil mods and better tolerance machining.

No new crank, pistons, etc, just rods and it becomes 600hp capable. Your engine problems will start here and give usual head gasket issues because open deck cylinder long blocks tend to walk around when at their limits and break the head gasket seals.

For reference, Toyota made BMW produce a closed block system on the Supra instead of just running with one of the off the line bimmer motor. Good call.

You can't swap in a WRX block. Different bell-housing and starter mounting points. Rods and pistons are all that is needed. But after 350whp one runs into transmission issues.

My mistake, I was told they were the same long block sans the compression ratios. Just the long block portion, not the rest. Didn't know the starter was an issue.
