I must admit that using AR to paste a digital car into a real parking lot is pretty clever, but this is still a completely fictitious render done by a 3rd party and is completely unrelated to Toyota. The sad thing is that this will probably start another wave of click-bait articles (not that the current article is not click-bait...) about Toyota's plan for a convertible GR86. And so it goes. Where's @Tcoat when we need him?

This isn't even original, been around almost as long as the twins. There are whole discussions on the forum about targa and convertible versions from 10 years ago.

At least with the FRS someone actually built one. Toyota was also showing around a convertible version in late 2013 that left everyone disappointed they didn't build it.

Convertibles are horrible. I hope Subaru/Toyota won't waste their resources on this.

I love how things with this car always come full circle. Early on in Gen1, was the turbo talk, convertible talk, and STI/TRD talk. And it's all coming around again with Gen2. Its so nice to see.

I'm sure it would be fine if you welded the doors shut...

Target consumer for this concept is Lamborghini Countach drivers (adopting the Countach reversing position isnt actually required here) and BMW drivers (where blind spots mean the OTHER driver is blind to your anticipated maneuvering into that spot)

I spoke to a 1st gen owner who had done this to a twin as some point. I asked about needing to re-enforce the chassis and he said a LOT of additional re-enforcement was needed to the car.

Not surprising
Unless the chassis was designed with a convertible option in mind, Im sure the roof itself contributes a fair amount of structural rigidity.

I think you are right about the roof. There's plenty of discussion here and elsewhere about how important the roof is to the chassis structure.
