I would like to say I trust that Toyota is being smart about production, but every month that goes by where the few new allocations in my region are all or mostly AT... really has me scratching my head. I wonder if they let the final years sales data for first gen influence their '22 MY plans too much? 45% manual take rate.. probably average over the life of the first gen. If the later years leaned heavily AT to try to move more cars (since the enthusiasts had theirs by then) and they looked at those years to inform their production plans, that could be part of it.
86 / FR-S Sales 2021 1.153 2020 2.476 2019 3.398 2018 4.133 2017 6.846 2016 7.457 2015 10.507 2014 14.062 2013 18.327 2012 11.417 Then there's volume. Compound the uncertainty of not knowing whether anyone will actually want to buy the thing (I wouldn't have guessed it) with the obvious problems of the day, and yeah I wouldn't fault Toyota for not stretching to make 18,000 low-margin cars in 2022, despite people throwing money at them. They couldn't if they wanted to. At the rate we're going, I could see there being fewer than 7000 22MY GR86 made for the US but I have no way to actually estimate. Really funny to realize I've gone through the stages of grief and am now at acceptance any good news will be a bonus. |

Oo that blue in your pics pops much better than I've seen, sorta reminiscent of the old EM1 Si Electron blue or Viper blue, or WRB for that matter. I know it's darker in person, but that's one of the more flattering pics of that color I've seen. |

Any evidence of what they were doing during the QC hold? Minor scratches around the turn signal stalk or elsewhere in the interior? Pulled the engine out to replace the passenger side gaskets? (there are a couple of people of FB who had some oil leaking on the header) |

In my experience ordering other vehicles, QC holds are either randomized or targeted after finding an issue on a vehicle one specific randomized qc check. I wouldn't necessarily worry about it, but you could really escalate if you wanted to and see if they reveal what they found or why it was on QC hold. I think that this will happen more often during and post pandemic as they are already behind in production but can't just stop the whole factory line to make an adjustment.

It should depend on when and maybe where you put a deposit down. But unfortunately it’s probably way too random to say. The smaller the dealer you have a deposit with, the less likely. Having multiple deposits should help.
