86DC is a great community with very friendly and helpful people, and an awesome benchmark to see what other can do with basically the same car as yours.

If you've never driven on track before, you're still welcome to join, but the track org will require you to start in the beginner group. Beginners have a coach untill they've proven to be able to drive safely by themselves. Personally I'd suggest at least 10 track days of experience before you start pushing for lap times, although 5 is fine if you have your ego under control. But again you can start even as a complete beginner, as long as you get coaching and don't worry about the leaderboard for the first few events. To gain track experience and learn how to drive safely I can't recommend "Hooked on Driving" enough. As for the equipment, for your first track day you only really need a good high temp brake fluid and a Snell-certified helmet. If you go to Thunderhill they have helmet rentals. As you start going faster, you should get track brake pads and front camber bolts. Then tires. Other than that you don't really need anything to be competitive in the Stock class. |

I've driven with several organizations and yes HOD tends to be the best for beginners. It's expensive but worth it. Dave Ray is the owner and a very cool guy. Great instruction also. Not the cheap track day organization with questionable cars and drivers that I've experienced before with other groups

It looks like this season the Street class will be even more competitive than Stock!
That being said, it's fun to participate in 86DC events even when you can't immediately go chase the top spots. It took me 20 track days to get my first P1, and one of the fastest folks there previously confessed that it took him 40. |

be careful its addicting. Once you start you can't stop. I started with basically a stock car and look where I am now... This year the setup will evolve to a Full strip interior, Full Aero, 200TW Tires, cage, racing seat and a new DD Truck that can tow.

And some have gone full circle. Selling the stripped race car, trailer and truck, and buying a new 86 and driving it w/ minimal mods. Just to simplify life and focus on driving and having fun.
Driver mod works on any car.
