I got super early pre-orders down on both, but in my region the gr86 is potentially not at dealers till march/april next year, whereas the BRZ has a chance at December.

The BRZ might get my money by default! Hehe.

But it will all depend on the look of it up close.

More dealers around town for service, cheaper insurance, and we have a Highlander and RX350 in our household, would like to keep it in the Toyota family.
I've also considered the fuel consumption rate and maintenance and am moving to an economical one, Toyota of course .

Am I missing something? How does fuel consumption differ from Toyota and Subaru for this platform?

EPA rating is different, Brz received 1MPG more.

I had no problem throwing back end out on my '15 BRZ on 255/35/18 Star Specs and 400/400 GC coilovers.

Only the BRZ EPA rating is available as far as I am aware. GR86 hasn't received an official EPA rating yet.

It’s just funny to me reading people’s opinion on the driving characteristics based solely off of the front end they like and the name associated. Lol. If these cars got a refresh with the BRZ looking more tame and the 86 looking funky (like the previous Gen) all of a sudden the BRZ drives better.

If that's true, I don't understand how that could even be something consider.

Ok. I did not check on EPA, I heard during BrZ reviews, I don’t recall which one of the reviewers was.

Anyone know if toyota builds the engine for GR86 from subaru's short block in their own factory or does subaru ship them the long block with the heads attached? There was some rumbling about GR86 getting slightly higher tune.

In any case I think I'd trust Toyota's QA Kaizen and manufacturing more then Fuji Heavy Industries if the cars are built at different places

They are built on the same line by the same people with the same parts. Engine, Body, Interior, all of it. The only differences are the stuff explicitly called out in the promotional material.

Toyota making their own version of the same engine would go against every Kaizen principle they've ever striven for.

What else is to expect? The cars are 99% the same, so the final decision to make is based on looks or brand appeal.

I think I lost you man. That’s not what I’m saying. Everyone understands that it comes down to preference because they’re the same, but some people are acting like, performance wise, one is better because of the looks which is hilarious.
