Nissan is sticking with that "new" old car formula that dragged the 370z on for over a decade. But hey its got a newish engine and an "interesting" body over its 8/10 chassis. Predicating reports of over heating and 1 wheel peels from 3 laps on track reviews.

I think he nailed it with his comment 'dealer markup is going to be a b!tch'.
No car will please everyone. Including the Z. There will always be armchair experts criticizing it for being too heavy, too slow, too whatever. It doesn't have to please everyone. Just enough buyers to make it worthwhile. We don't know if the 'details' posted by the person with inside information are correct or not, but if the Z comes in at anything around $40k, I think it's going to sell well. Whatever the actual price will be, it will be cheaper than the Supra. The price will probably be comparable to or even less than a Mustang GT, which (thanks to Ford's make less of them and charge more for each one strategy) is now a pretty expensive car. On a dollars for performance basis, the Z might end up being the best value on the market. It's clearly a step (or two) up the ladder from the BRZ in both performance and price, but it's still a relatively inexpensive performance sports car. Even somewhere around $40k-ish, that's about half the price of a new C8 Corvette. I know which one I'd rather have. Combine that with styling that most people like with all the expected updates (interior, twin turbo, etc.), and the availability of a manual transmission, I think demand will exceed supply for a while. This may be especially true due to the ongoing supply chain disruptions and specific shortages (chips, seat foam) of some materials thanks to the pandemic. Throw in the usual Nissan dealer greed and sleaze, and new model excitement, means it probably be quite a while before it will be possible to buy one for MSRP. |

I think this will sell well and better than the 370Z because of the twin turbo engine and knowledge that the CD009 can hold plenty of power, so more power is going to be just a tune and a few modifications away. Plus, the redesign is favorable to the old design for many people. While the 350Z/370Z could be modified to look ok, I was never a fan of the vertical headlights that were controversial on the Z and GTR, and I was never a fan of the soft, pug body and round rear. This new design brings the best of the Z back with the 240Z look with the 300ZX rear, so I’m a fan, even if I think there is room for improvement.
Like I have said, I don’t think the Z needs to complete with the Supra to do well. If both brands made compelling cars, and they have, then they will find buyers. Frankly, if Nissan is trying to steal buyers from anyone then they should be benchmarking the performance and price against the Mustang and Camaro because the domestics have far more sales than the Supra. Seems like that continues to be their strategy because the car is positioned as a Japanese, inexpensive, pony car.

Let me get this straight.
Anyone who has ever driven a ZF8 speed can attest it is a great auto; it shifts fast and can hold a lot of torque. I’m sorry but the Mercedes 9 speed auto isn’t anywhere near the ZF level. So basically it’s a rehash 350/370z chassis that has been reinforced for stiffness. Anyone who has driven a Z can attest the Z is not nimble at high speeds. It’s not precise; it’s a brute at the limits. The interior is a remix of the old Z with new electronics. The old Z’s interior is so outdated and crusty looking. I’m not a fan of arm rest area. I’ll give Nissan props on keeping the manual but we all know for sure, 90% of the Z owners will buy the auto. If the Supra came in manual, I would still buy the ZF auto. Every car I’ve owned is a manual but after experiencing a ZF auto, i just can’t go back to a manual for the Supra. My biggest concern is that the new Z will be just like the old Z in many ways. The Z needed an all new chassis design and interior redesign. My expectation for the Z was real until these leaks came out. I’ll keep my BMW Supra. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

@blackhawkdown... This demonstrates my point that the Supra and Z can entice different buyers, no different than how people said the C8 would be a Supra killer when pricing came out. Nope. There are benefits and differences to each. There will be people who find value more in the Supra or C8 than the Z and vice versa. I think the pricing of each of these cars is going to be inline with what they offer to the majority of their intended buyers, and those buyers will find the means to rationalize their purchase.
I agree that the Supra is on a different level. Nevertheless, the Z is still more compelling for me because what I value, and that is driver engagement, which is necessarily linked to a manual transmission. I get more enjoyment from a economy car with a manual than a supercar with an amazing auto. I’ve tried them. It is not my thing.

according to the Z forum even in the early days of the 370 it was about half & half.
http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...tatistics.html 6MT - 13,466 7AT - 13,901 for me the Z is also more appealing. it will come with a manual, cheaper and its not a BMW... i am by no means a BMW hater. i have owned many gens of 3 & 5 series. im just over the headaches and gremlins that things have given me. |

A $35k Nissan Z with a 400hp V6 TT is a compelling buy. The new Z is going to be the new V8 mustang.

I’ve had 4. An E46 I sold with 200k on it, original clutch still. Then a Z4 and an E92, then switched the E92 for an E90 (4door). Still have that one, it’s at 100k and drives amazingly. None of then had a warranty while I owned them, and yes they need maintenance, but none of it has been crazy (water pump, valve cover gasket). My BRZ on the other has had the engine out twice before 75k miles. And the TOB. And it needed new shocks fairly early too. I’m glad that one had a warranty when I bought it. |
