2013 Engine Warranty recall issues?

I have been putting off the recall work for my car because I am worried about having issues after its done. Has anyone had issues after the recall work was done (from things not being put back together properly)? I need to have some maintenance work done and am wondering if I should have the recall done at the same time. Thanks in advance.

so its basically a crapshoot. You can get lucky and have a tech who knows what they are doing or your engine can be destroyed. If its destroyed, Toyota will say anything so they are not responsible for fixing/replacing it. Thanks for the info.

Just don't do it. It's not worth all the anxiety involved. The chances of valve failure are sooo remote. There's alot less chance of valve failure than your engine being destroyed by the idiots. I think California is the only place that it is required.

Ugmm...no, it's not a crapshoot.

Odds are good that it will be done properly. There was only a small percentage of failures and most were early on.

It needs to be done by a competent mechanic, and preferably by one that has already done several. Ask how many the mechanic has done, and if there have been failures.

Also, in most cases, the dealership covered their mistake. In some cases Toyota stepped up to force the repair. The failure isn't actually Toyota's to fix though, its the dealership so your fight is with them.

But, as @WNDSRFR said, the odds are likely better you will have a failure of the repair than a failure of the springs. If the springs do fail, Toyota would likely cover the cost of the repair (at least according to the recall).

Unless you have to have it done for registration purposes, I'm solidly on the "ignore it" side of the house, even though having mine done over 50,000 miles ago with no issues.

Its a ‘13, if one of the springs hasn’t failed yet, it probably won’t. You’re not in California where the recall work is mandated, so just forget about it.

i agree- if you have not had issues then i would not chance it.

but personally i would keep a close eye on it just for the sake of it. and if worse comes to worst, then find someone competent and able to do it. ask a dealer or mechanic before hand if they have done it previously.

So I took my car in to fix 2 things and do regular maintenance. My suspension has been messed up for a while now and it turned out to be the control arm ($800 ripoff to fix it, the part only costs around $200, rest was labor). I destroyed my back so I am unable to do the work myself anymore. The next issue was the driver side windshield wiper fluid jet did not work. They said it was a splitter that was broken and costs $257 plus labor which was another $150 ripoff. Then they convinced me to do the engine recall work. I met the mechanic who has done the recall work 7 times already and he says that they were all successful. He did the work, I got the car back last night and it seems to be running great still. I had it done at Autonation Toyota in Weston for anyone who needs to have the work done. Besides the price, they fixed everything perfectly. Hopefully nothing changes since its only been 1 day.

I had the “ how many have you done and have there been any issues down the road with the ones you’ve done” with the service manager at Irvine Toyota. Of course the answer was yeah we've done over a hundred and no problems.

They destroyed my engine

Could you tell the engine was not right as soon as you started driving it or did it take time until the engine had issues?

It was fine for 3000 miles then went exiting T5 at Laguna. The silicon they got into the block starved the motor for oil. It happened all at once with no warning.
