It is being marketed as "near perfect weight distribution", but who knows what marketing people think is perfect.

Less than 100lb from the 2013 versions specifically. I'm ok with a gain of ~2.4% (~65lb) for an extra ~15% power.

There might be some conditions that apply: "you need to put 2 people in the trunk for 50/50"

Is 80 pounds really that noticeable in a 2,800 pound car? If the gas tank holds 13.2 gallons and gasoline weighs 6.3 lbs/gallon, the difference between a full and empty tank (≈11.2 gallons) is about 70 pounds. Every time we fill our gas tank, we increase the car’s weight by about as much as the delta between the 1st and 2nd gen BRZ/86. I’m with @chipmunk and suspect that 80lbs is nearly unnoticeable. As counter point, if that 80 lbs increased torsional rigidity by the claimed 50%, handling may improve despite the slight weight gain.

Even with sub 200hp to the wheels,it's still easy to whip the tail out. Once you put on 225 or wider,you'll notice a significant difference in grip. I know first hand,because that's exactly what I did and I feel the difference,and I'm positive that other can confirm the same.

Now imagine the same narrow tire width with 20+ more hp and more torque. Maybe the new tires have more grip,but I feel like this car shouldn't come with anything thinner than a 225 out of the box.

I always felt like from the engineers perspective,to expect the buyers of this car to all be able to drive this car at 10/10 and be capable of controlling it in a slide in corners,vs having wider,more grippy tires where everyone can control it,is asking a whole lot,but that's just me.

Ummm all of the tS versions in the first gen were around 50 pounds heavier than the other versions. Not sure how they would be lighter now.

The whole thing is that the engineers are not building a car to be driven at 10/10. They are building a car for 5/10 driving. They have to make compromises that even they don't like to meet many different requirements. They expect the guys driving it at 10/10 to know what to do to fix those compromises.
Remember it is built as a street car that can be used on the track not a track car that can be used on the street.

The big difference between gen 1 and gen 2 for me is that the new model requires minimal modification out of the box. For track, you can wait for tS or Performance Package, or add quality coilovers and pads/fluid. This creates a racing class, without the desire for FI. They tested the car against a new Mustang EcoBoost, which isnt exactly slow with track pack. For daily, the tires and 240 horsepower and I'm happy. Shiv.

the first thing that comes to mind is "designed by focus group". the edges are smoothed over, and just feel like a phycologist asking me "how do you feel about that"...

I mentioned the exact same thing about swapping motors. Some people like the looks of the OG versions.Some people like the refresh.Seems like there are many more people that are disappointed with the exterior of this version than the previous two,so far. Easy solution would seem to be able to take what's under the hood of this version and put it under the hood of either of the previous two versions.I know if my '13 had an extra 30hp,I'd be over the moon.
