Oil usage with turbo.
Hello I have the Blitz Turbo kit.I'm taking the car out of storage and it's maintenance time I was originally using mobil 5W-30 due to that being the most agreed upon oil to use when running a turbo. But i was wondering if i should go with the manufacturer which recommends 10W-30,10W-40W or 5W-40.The car will be DD.No track, autocross or wild driving.

Yep.
If the turbo manufacturer recommends 10w-30 or what ever, I say go with that. It's not much of a jump from 5w-30.

No “wild driving”? So you will always be below the speed limit and will never floor it. Why the hell did you turbo it?
Anyway, the lower the first number the better protection you will have with a cold engine, the higher the 2nd number the better protection(to a degree) you will have when hot. Now you just have to figure out what your max and min oil temperature will be. Oil viscosity in the turbo is a lot less important than in the engine. |
