Having some trouble with my new ECU. I unplugged negative battery terminal, installed new ECU, hoole battery back up, did a 35 min security sync, and now I'm trying to flash B01C on this new ECU which is JA01C but ECUFlash won't even read. I get an error that tells me too look at the log but the log just shows "entering bootloader" then "interface close". Thoughts?

Check battery is good and volts above 12

If the tuning device will read the calid and vin number then conmection is ok and ecu responsive. Most likely cause is that ecu has been flashed with a tune sysyem that locks ecu ie brzedit or ecutek

Using this procedure tonight, crossing my fingers.

Just did a full 6speed swap. The only thing untouched was the engine + engine harness. I had left the AT ECU in the car, hoping to flash a MT over it. No such luck.

Grabbed a MT ECU, installed it and tonight I'll be using the software listed and the proper cable to hopefully change the VIN and complete the 30min pin jump.

Doing this so I can then use my Ecutek software to recognize my original VIN with the new ECU and flash my new MT tune. Wish me luck!

Unless the ecu was locked you should be able to flash any rom you like to it, done many of these now no issues auto to man or other wsy round usa to austrslian no issues

VIN change went great, no issues. Problems came into play with my Ecutek license. Had to get my license transferred to my new MT ECU and remove the license from my AT ECU. PIA

Hello all,
My 86 has Greddy T518z Turbo kit installed and tuned by Greddy. To tune again i have to install new ecu because previous ecu is locked by previous tuner.
I have replaced my ecu with a used one which one i bought. After looping 3 and 14 pin of the OBD port and pressed 2 times the start button. I have waited for 30 mins. Then tried to start the car but its not starting, its like ignition self is trying but throttle body is not starting. What problem can be. is my new bought ecu bricked or that does not have turbo map , thats why car is not starting.
Thanks

If starter cranks on pushbutton start car ecu sync is good and ecu working.

may not start if map sensor or port injectors non standard on stock tune

or you have manual car with auto ecu calibration or other way round

@steve99, I write here for better understanding to all.
It refers to ECU mgmt.
HKS Japan often said that HKS reflash for S/C outside Japan is not possible on non Japan ECU.
I know that HKS Flasher for S/C writer operates only for Japanese car and it needs:
#1. ECU FW with a genuine .pak file of JDM;
#2. HKS flasher chechs if VIN and ROM are JDM;
#3. If a rewrite is almost done on a genuine ECU, HKS will not reflash.
#4. No reflash is done on an override ECU with other tune.

I know that EDM and USDM later grade maight not be fully interchangeable thus is there a different management of Baro and MAF due to US emissions rules.

My question is:
#A - If I get SSMIII (and J2534) updated which contents include all Subaru's .pak file (JDM, EK, AE and so on), can I flash an EDM ECU with a JDM pak file (you need to change VIN with a Japanese one)?
#B - after that, the JDM reflash grants me the choice to use HKS flasher to tune my S/C;
#C - JMD ECU management might be adverse in NBC or other modules?

As far as I know all ecu hardware is same just the ecu calibration (tune) is different for each country and the VIN changes with each car.

I have had people put A01G roms in Japanese cars ie A00A for example and it works fine, just did another one couple of days ago ,was Japanese import t Australia.

So you will be able to flash a say A01A Japanese rom to your A01G car and it will most likely work fine unless their is some external changes like emissons . as long as the hks editior will allow you to disable codes it should be ok. however their tune is likely locked ??

you could also change the VIN this does not effect ability to start car only effect licienced tools like ecutek hks and brzedit OFT.

I would thik you would loose your ecutek licience if you overwrite with hks editor tool.

the safest option might be to purchase an ecu and test on the second ecu. and keep your original ecu to swap back in in case of problems.
