We can't get E85 and 91 cost $4.66. You don't even want to know what anything above 91 costs!

You are indeed lucky. I live in Connecticut, too bad I can't run my car on cow's milk.

Folks have already commented on the benefits of ethanol from the knock-threshold perspective. I would like to add some thoughts from the 'hardware' point of view. Mind you that this is just speculation on my part, and I am basing this completely off of 'semi-educated' guessing;

I think that due to the lower combustion temperatures (Lowest temperature at which Ethanol can experience auto-ignition/spontaneous ignition is 153 degrees higher than Gasoline) engine internals, at the same power levels, will be subjected to less thermal expansion. That being said, motor internals will be more likely to keep their shape and you will have less chance of your internals abrasing against one another (i.e. piston slap, hitting against cylinder wall).
