The dealership I bought from offers it's customers free oil changes for life (of the car.)

Does anybody know whether I can just get the filter and oil from the dealer and do it myself instead of them doing it? It'll be even better if they can just give me 3 oil filters and the oils upfront and call it a day.

I agree. I don't want my fr-s in the hands of greasy little techs itching to do some sideways action in MY sports car. That's for me to do... Sucks when you can't trust people...

how come only the state get the 2 years maintence plan and we dont get it in Canada

It's to cut down on warranty claims and for individuals to build a rapport with the dealerships. Build a rapport, continue bringing the car in for maintenance and purchase of new vehicles. The only real 'maintenance' that is done is three oil changes--or a $150 value.

It has little to do with the goodness of their hearts.

- reduce warranty claims
- keep people coming to the dealer to sell new cars

Mine says that too but I think remembering the dealer telling me that 5K was for the other scion vehicles except for the FR-S.
