So yesterday I managed to remove the handbrake cover and silver panel that surrounds the gear shift lever. This helped me to see into the area where the loose bolt is rolling around but the space is too small to really see what's going on. Will need to try and remove the entire panel at some stage but that's rather tricky. If anyone is interested, I found a helpful guide over here;
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8336

The only difference is that I have the highspec and I'm assuming that the start/stop switch will make it much trickier to get to the last 2 bolts holding down the center panel.

Will let you know if I get it right and will add pictures to the DIY.

Cheers

Hi all,

just to update you that I managed to dismantle my center console this weekend to get rid of that annoying sound coming from beneath the center console.

Good news is that I managed to solve the problem and at the same time eliminate another rattle coming from the gear shift panel. Bad news is that I didn't find the bolt that was rolling around Once I took the panel off I think the it slipped between some carpeting or something but whatever happened to it, it's gone now.

Also wanted to let you all know that the ^^ above ^^ post with a link to the DIY is 100% correct and I got all the panels off easily and without any scratches or broken clips etc. :-)

On another note. I seem to also be affected by this known issue which is my next project. Anyone else hearing this annoying sounds coming from the rear?

Yeah, that was my plan too. I'll rather push something in there with a screwdriver to keep them apart. let you know if it solves the problem

I'm really glad I got a Tuesday car because I'm not experiencing any of these issues.

I'm not going near any dirt roads with my 86 though.

I drive 20km of dirt road every time I use my girl, and she handles it beautifully!

On around 4500km and still okay (besides the hail dent on the bonnet!).

hail, say no more, removed 13 of those dents from my bonnet about a month ago,
still have a small one on the roof, was not interested in them removing my roof lining
