Yeah, I was going to ask "were all your previous cars FWD/AWD?".

It might have something to do with the combination of:
- having a longer drive shaft between the transmission and the diff
- having shorter / stiffer linkage between the gear shifter and the gearbox itself

Transmission is smooth, but sometimes the second does not engage. Not sure if a problem or if it is a characteristic.

Coming from a 18 BRZ.

Is it only when cold? How cold does it get where you are?

Happens when in normal temperature, and more when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. I may be missing the gate (pulling too much to the left), maybe I am used to the 18 shifter and putting more force than needed.

I will do some testing this weekend and see if I can turn the issue on-off with my inputs (which I suspect is the case).

Huh, weird. I've noticed 2nd gear does need a tiny bit more force to engage compared to the other gears, but it's never refused.

I thought that "thunk" felt odd at first too. This brz is my 7th or 8th RWD car, and I don't recall noticing it in other cars. My most recent one being a turbo '99 miata that I sold less then 2 mos ago, so it's not likely something that I just forgot about.

Yes there is a little thunk when its engaging. Also noticed a loud whirring noise when in low rpm and its about to bog.

Thanks, knew I wasn’t going crazy! Also, just about every manual Subaru I’ve ever driven makes a whirring noise. My WRX sounded like it was supercharged after short shifter and bushings. There’s a good amount of rawness in this car that I wasn’t expecting but glad it’s there!

Yea things are definitely louder up front than they were on the wrx. The engine startup is really loud.

Am definitely noticing something "spin down" when going into 1st at a brief stop, feels like it's actually wobbling the shifter if you go too quickly/aggressively. In other cars WRX, Mazda3 it seemed like it would just prevent you from going into 1st at all in that situation for a beat rather than letting you perceive any movement in the shifter.
