There's some reason for hope today.

There was bipartisan legislation introduced last May to defund the Wuhan Institute but it stalled out. I thought it was too narrowly focused anyway.

Today, a new bipartisan bill was introduced to halt all government funding of any gain of function research for the next five years. They call it the Pausing Enhanced Pandemic Pathogen Research Act.

If it applies worldwide, it would make more sense than the earlier bill since we don't know if the US is funding GOF anywhere else yet.

Why it's limited to five years is something only a politician can explain.
