Toyota had the dealer order the small ECU that is located under the center console to fix it. They said to try that, then a complete wiring harness next if problem persisted, then finally the $1100 panel itself if the first two didn't fix it. And just for fun, order them separately after trying each in sequence. I just got back from the dealer, they finally just today got the ECU in. It did not repair the problem. It took 2+ months to get it in. The technician again confirmed to them that there is voltage going to the illuminated panel, and that he believes it is the culprit. Toyota persists in this slow and systematic approach to correcting the fault. The dealer ordered the wiring harness today. At this rate, I won't have this repaired until October or November. And, I will have well less than a year on my warranty before they get it working. This also means they won't have to fix it again when it fails again. I am supremely disappointed in Toyota. How these kinds of wait times are acceptable to them defies logic. I am going to start looking into a new car for my wife soon. I am scratching Toyota off the list. I have bought many new cars in my time, and have never experienced so much quibbling from a car maker. The dealer wanted to order the whole kit, and replace whatever needed replaced to fix this, but Toyota USA simply will not allow it. I agree this is a small issue, but it is indicative of the mistreatment I believe I can expect if I were to come in with a major problem. Love my FR-S, but not going to spend money on a Lexus with this experience now. Anybody driven an Infiniti Q50? Always had great experience with Nissan.
If the problem was reported before the warranty is up, you should be covered. Sucks that it's taking so long to get resolved, but it sounds like they're (slowly) fixing it for you. Good luck.

It's inevitable for many owners in the future that the special edition features stop working. There are alternatives for LED badges, but who can experiment with electroluminescent panels for the dash? I'm interested in how much work would it take to wire in a decal that glows, and the best place to source it. I know it's possible, and wouldn't be expensive. It also opens up customization...

Don't tell me to take it to the dealer...they're ignorant to it now and in the future it doesn't make sense to fork over thousands of dollars in parts and labor for their guesswork.

I have a manual, so I don't have one, but isn't it solar powered?

On my automatic (not sure if that matters) 10 series the shift knob is solar powered. It has a little button on the side you can press to turn the light off and on when it's dark. Might just need some sun.

I'll probably check with a different dealer about my dash not working when the first oil change comes around. However, is there anyone willing to sell their panel? Doesn't matter if it's working or not; doesn't even need the ribbon cable attached. I know there's some that have swapped theirs out for aftermarket.

If the dealer is slow or stupid about it (most likely) I plan on putting in my own EL panel, and possibly make a custom overlay to have a different logo displayed while the car is on. I would like to have a spare to dissect and operate. If it's successful I'll do a write up and people could have their custom panels with different colors.

Has anyone turned the rear badge into a brake light or can anyone point me to a thread where this has been done?
