That was a lot of words to boil all of it down to the above, which is exactly what happened in states with or without mandates. The persons you are making cutesy names up for are going to do what they are going to do, legislation or not. In the end, it is a small percentage of folks but there is always a percentage, in my experience.

Unfortunately, you need smart, dedicated, ethical, strong leadership willing to make hard, unpopular decisions to do the right thing for society. They need to lead people to doing the right thing, the things that most people can't or won't do on their own. We're sadly lacking that in much of this country, at all levels. Which is why 'Merica is still the world leader in per capita COVID infection rates and deaths.

Fundamentally, I don't look to leadership to do anything for my life but hinder it, honestly. All the smarts in the world won't fix the base nature of what makes humans humans. Teaching kindness and empathy and integrity can't happen when "those in the know" constantly make fun of "maskholes, covidiots, and anti-vaxxers" and those who won't do what someone else tells them is best for them.

Instead of telling someone "i know better", why not show them better and then let them make up their own mind? Forcing someone to follow "unpopular decisions to do the right thing for society" isn't a way to run a society, let alone let one thrive.

Educating someone on an idea versus shoving an idea down their throat is what this sounds like to me via the use of "leadership". That ain't leadership.

Just my .02 but I don't have any kids so I'm not supposed to have learned the lesson of how controlling humans doesn't work.

I don't comment on this thread as much because is just not a topic that interests me as much as say, PC gamers or random thoughts, I just read it for the lolz. Even when the intention of Off-Topic threads are to share opinions on anything other than the twins, I find it impossible for this thread to stay within the guidelines of the Off-Topic section. That is because whether you agree with vax or not, rules or not, studies or conspiracies, there is some political aspect to those decisions. Which is something that I'm seeing a lot in these last posts. Said posts can be deleted, folks can get kicked for going overboard, but is really hard to maintain this thread at the level is supposed to be. I guess is the beauty of freedom of expression, but bringing personal feelings mixed with your political views makes for a toxic environment.

Gain of function research funded by the US at Wohan is a thing, even though Paul is just instigating with his questions in an effort to discredit Fauci. This will be a thing for a while and like I said previously, the WHO left enough doubt in their investigation of the Wohan lab to raise questions about it.

The issue with opening things up and relying on self-regulation is that it will fail if left in the hands of employers and the public. Sure, less government can be good sometimes, but understanding human behaviour, authoritative action can sometimes be necessary.
Referring to my location next door, people working in a factory, warehouse or essential service are less likely to call in sick in the morning when they lose the income they really need to get by. A large percentage of the spread has taken place under those circumstances. Government can offer sick pay or mandate business to a reasonable level. Heck, my old employer was open illegally for a week when we went back to lockdown, and only closed again when restrictions were tightened further 1-2 weeks in for fear of serious reprocussions. Some people are selfish, stupid, ignorant, you name it. There are circumstances when we have seen the need for authority. The medical advisors here should have decided when the lockdown started, not the premier. The improper authority in this case was the one whose primary concern was the bottom line. A protracted lockdown resulting from inaction only causes more overall damage. Priority 1 should be removing and safeguarding from remergence of the virus in your population. Then we can get the engine running again as opposed to running on 3 cylinders forever. And 100% there should be vaccination passports for indoor activities so people can decide what they choose to sacrifice if they want to. Funny, homeless people generally accept the vaccines yet people in far more secure circumstances are somtimes choosing to play Russian roulette with this virus..

I had a feeling you might be channeling him. He is an exemplar of disinformation. A crank. A quack. A charlatan. He uses words that have a known meaning and twists them to sell his preferred fantasy of the moment, or to attack his chosen enemy. How do you know he's lying? His lips move. Amigo, you are being duped.

There was a reason Plato was terrified of Democracy. People. Hamilton, Madison, Washington and others of their period as well. "Impulses of passion," Madison called it. He noted that, as a result, "democracies are as short in their lives as they are violent in their deaths." You/we may well be watching the realization of his prophecy. History, my friends. We're living it.

I guess I've seen enough. Off to saner pastures. Live long and prosper.

Agreed. I don't understand why this thread hasn't been locked or deleted yet. For as much as a certain member is losing his shit over this thread, I do think he at least has a point.

Simply appending a [NO POLITICS] to the thread title will not help in this case as the very subject is already political.

I haven’t been following things, so sorry if this is a repost, but apparently bodies of discarded bodies are washing up on the banks of the river. I mentioned before that India has a poor system for counting deaths, but this just adds salt to a wound. It is sad that COVID bodies are being discarded in such a way:

I think it is because sometimes there is actually good information sharing regarding the vaccines, so the mods deal with the BS to benefit those who might actually be helped by the info.

This is actually the 3rd or 4th thread regarding covid, the first few were deleted.
