Help Bench Testing Gauge Cluster

Hi all!

I believe this has been asked in the past, however an answer was never reached and the thread died at that. So i am opening a new thread some time later hoping someone may be able to help.

I am trying to mod my gauge cluster for my early model BRZ (pre face lift) and i would like to test some things out as i develop my mod for it. However i am unable to get it running outside the car and this is crucial to aid with testing.

Has anyone here done something similar and would be willing to share how they did it? i gather that there will need to be something CAN to speak to the cluster but I'm unsure how to connect it up and how to program it. I was thinking of going with an Arduino with a CAN hat.

Please let me know if you have any further info that may help i would really appreciate it

I think you're on the right track with Arduino. I've never tried what you're doing but I have used an Arduino in a little science project and I used ChatGPT to help me program it. Just tell ChatGPT what you're trying to do and it works pretty well to build the code for you.

yeah you would need some sort of device or replay mechanism. what do you need to test in the cluster?

To be honest, i am wanting to reverse it software on it and find out more how it works. But the issue i am having is anytime i will need to make a change, i will need to plug it back into the car to test.

I would also like to test some other hardware mods I'm planning on making for it. but that is a bit further away
