Wouldn't it have been easier to just paint the Scion ones red? Or use red Plasti-Dip?

They're not exactly "JDM". The car that rocks those in Japan (And Australia!) is the GT spec (GTS in Australia). Bigger wheels, bigger rotors in the brakes, leather seats (heated!), frameless mirror, keyless go, all the fruit.

The car that has the black badges (as the FR-S does) is the G spec in Japan-- Smaller brakes (like FR-S), cloth seats (like FR-S), smaller brakes (like FR-S), standard key (like FR-S)... see where I'm going with this?

That said? Red looks cooler. So who cares!

The JDM GTS has the same brakes as NA versions, the G Spec has smaller than normal brakes to fit 15" steelies which come on the car.

... you mean 16" steelies, and that's the RC, not the G. And the brakes on the GTS (Australia only, Japan has the GT/GT Limited, not GTS) fit underneath 16" wheels, actually. I was under the impression the FR-S had the smaller discs. Hm! I'll have to correct that.

EDIT; Yep, FR-S has same brakes as GT, GT Limited and GTS. Sorry!

Congrats on your car! The red accents remind me of Honda Type-R badges.

When my wife's 2008 Honda Civic Sedan was just days old, someone stole the rear "H" emblem in our driveway. Rather than risk the same thing happening again, I covered the holes with magnets inside the trunk and applied an Apple sticker on the outside where the emblem used to be because it was about the same size. So, it looks like she's a serious Apple fan, when really we just wanted to put something in the empty spot.

One great benefit to all the JDM badge envy is that I don't think anyone will WANT my Scion badges. Awesome! I think the FR-S actually will improve Scion's rep over time, especially if Scion builds upon such an awesome launch.

I never knew Scion was generally looked upon with such scorn until I joined this forum. The original TC was very cool in my eyes, and if I had not recently purchased a Civic coupe, I'd have bought a TC when it came out.

There are actually 3 different '86' badges - the ones on the US spec FR-S have no enamel (like the OP's), the red enamelled ones like he replaced them with and ones with black enamel. I believe the GT86s all get the enamelled ones - the black ones for the lower-end models and the red ones for the higher-end models. Not sure how the different models are determined for every country but assume it's similar to the BRZ's 'Premium' and 'Limited' designations.
