I don't regret my decision at all, and will probably keep it forever, but it won't be my next (2nd car) purchase. Along the lines of many others in this thread, I don't think you can get as much (fun) car for the money, and is overall a great value for the money. I bought this as a weekend toy (when I commuted by train) to learn how to drive, how a car works, and how to mod and maintain one, all without breaking the bank. It has filled that role perfectly. Likewise, after I moved to Cali, it became my daily driver, and has served me well with good fuel economy. Plus, the roads out here have given me a much greater appreciation for how nice the handling is.
Almost every time I drive something else in the 'cheaper' sportscar vein - base Cayman, Mustang , Camaro, RCZ - I come away disappointed, especially since they are all more expensive, even in these lesser configurations. The only comparable 'feel' I've seen is from my friends 2011 Boxster Spyder, but at 2.5x the price, used. So, I'm just going to keep building this into the car I want it to be, and having fun along the way.

I just bought the '17 86, so put me in the "again" camp. Toyota deserves to sell a zillion of them.

Would not hesitate to buy this car again if God forbid something happened to it.

It would be very hard for me to replace the Twins since bought the car off insurance and was a 15 model been fortunate enough to not encounter issues expect for fuel gauge being inaccurate. Can't stop driving this daily despite my long commutes. All this car frankly needs is not a turbo but just a bit better displacement at 2.5 at 250 HP would be enough for me.

Bought mine last week and I definitely will buy another one once I'm done paying this one so like in 2-3 years. Not trying to put many miles on it (Currently has 56k) so I can make it last at least until 150k and then get the GT86 😋

Am I happy with mine? YES! Would i rebuy? I couldn't honestly say I would again. It all depends on the market of course. Also after owning the frs I'd have to say it's really uses cheap ass materials. I'm comparing this to my 2002 civic si (ep3). If a civic type r was put I'd hesitate to buy again. Or if they actually brought out a better crz. I have a thing for civic hatchbacks. I love my 86 but sometimes I feel it could have been a better car if built by and only by Toyota.

I'L be 40yrs. old once i finish paying for my 2015 brz. Il be shipping it back home so i could drive it when i go there and also when i retire @60(thats my target). There aint not much of twins back home so it would feel more classy to drive. I love my brz and its so fun to drive. IL keep it ship it back home and try/buy a different car (either STI/370z).

In a heart beat I would. Theres just something about driving it that never gets old. Driving other cars just dont feel the same, granted those other cars are marketed at different people. The Twins are just an amazing driving experience for the price, any one ive had as a passenger compliments how nice it goes down the road and how it feels as a passenger.

It's very obvious that before Toyota stuck the "T" on they made some improvements, most notably in sound insulation. All I know is the '13 FR-S, so maybe the later years were better. So far, not one squeak or rattle. Much less road noise.
More power and torque, but I have no idea how much. It feels like a stock FR-S with Stage 1 tune. Mostly the same interior, but no red accents, and the seat fabric is much nicer. I think the seat geometry is a bit different as well, a smarter person will have to confirm. Better suspension, carried from the '16 or something new? Either way, it's much more planted. Steering feel is the same, but IIRC they changed a few things. It might not feel quite as "connected", but I'm not sure. The engine note is very different. No mad thrashing from up front, just a refined growl. I think it sounds like an old VFR-750, just a bit. I would not mind a bit if it was a bit louder, as it sounds good. I am not a fan of the front end yet, but I do think it looks a little less busy than the old one despite the fish face. The 86 badge is OK, it's a very clean look but still annoying they changed it. If they come off, I think I will remove them. The madness of the original has been toned down a bit. That may be good or bad, I think it's good. I said in my thread that it has become a "Gentleman's Express". I think it's a fantastic car. |

Did they change the gear ratios? I had read they were thinking about ratio changes. That would certainly make it quicker, possibly put it in the high 5s

I don't like how quickly they want to depreciate cars nowadays. I bought this car to keep it for decades. If I had a second thought, I would buy the same. I haven't find yet another car with similar values.

Originally had an FR-S for 50K miles and 3.5 years, moved to another used sports car instead. I have considered purchasing the twins again now that both the GT86 and BRZ have upgraded HVAC controls (it really improves the interior).
Problem is I in no-way trust myself to keep the car stock. I moved away from the platform to avoid a heavily modded car.
