I researched a ton of cars at the time of buying my 86... And I'd buy it again in a heart beat. It's a LOT of car for relatively little cash.
Of course this is based on a "like for like" situation.

In future my decision would be based on whatever else is available at the time, plus how much I'm prepared to spend. If I have Porsche/Ferrari money lying around then I doubt I'd buy an 86/frs/brz...
Who knows what we could buy in 2020???

Would I buy another FR-S knowing what I know now? I can say for myself (although I haven't had the car for very long), the answer would be or is; an absolute yes. For the price point there is nothing new that I would rather own, I could not be more satisfied.

I think I would rather purchase a BMW 2 series or a used 3 series. I currently own a FRS with TRD exhaust, TRD airfilter, Weds 16 x 7 wheels with Yokohama Advan Neova ADO8R 225/50/16. The car handles great and is fun/ good looking. I love it. I thought I heard it said "we all have car envy"

I guess everyone gets a lemon once in their life.

I think you should sell this lemon for a new 86/frs that wasn't built on a Friday.

I would buy another as long as they haven't done something to ruin it by the time I'm due for a new one. I plan to keep this one till it falls apart or a new version is released that would make me trade up.
The looks and handling are well more than enough to make up for slight lack of power. I understand what a mustang can do but if be hard pressed to feel as confident around corners in it as I am in the frs.
I think they just took too small a sample.

I would and I did! I got my FR-S in 2013 then got my boyfriend the RS 1.0 fresh off the boat. We have tons of fun canyon carving together 😀

I think of the little quirks as character. I haven't had any real problems with mine. Guess I'm one of the few lucky ones. When at meets we listen for the crickets as people trickle in to hang out with fellow forum members. Which brings me to another point why I love this car.. The overall community this forum has exposed me to. The people I've met in person are some of the nicest, most humble people that just like to have fun.

If I knew then what I know now, I would still buy.

Next car though, after the 2 we already have, would have to be a family car. We have to take both cars when it's the bf's daddy weekend with his 7y/o who's constantly growing and his not so short teen!

I think the lucky ones are actually the vast majority. We simply are not as verbal as the guys that have complaints so we just don't stand out as much.

I can honestly say that I wouldn't buy another one unless it has more power and is AWD,and that's why I'm planning on trading for a new WRX or STI in about a 18 months.

Those of you who'd buy Cayman instead of the 86, if the commute is shorter, what's the reasoning behind that? Is Cayman less comfortable?

I would most likely buy the 10 Series again (still love it it), or just wait the few months for a Monogram (for the pearl white) or Subaru Series.Blue BRZ (for the uniqueness) .

I'm kind of the resident non-car guy here, so my take is this... A lot of people probably buy this car without knowing what they're getting into.

They see a cheap-ish sports car that looks fantastic so they go out and buy it without fully researching the cars pros and cons.

I've had a lot of "ah-ha!" moments and have heard comments from other people about the drawbacks of this car (some real and some perceived) but I've typically been unphased by those moments because I did my due diligence before purchasing and knew about these supposed "issues" from the get-go... And I'd imagine, for most on this forum, it was the same thing.

Nobody likes surprises - unless there's cake.

edit: If I do end up getting rid of my FR-S there's a good chance it'll be for another FR-S or BRZ - the only change I'd make is that I'd buy new or find one that has been very gently driven.
