need help with replacing tire

Hi All,

BRZ is the first car I have ever owned. Recently I hit a flat tire due to a nail, and the nail is close to the sidewall and I need to replace a tire now. My BRZ has about 5K miles on it so treads were quite good and I will have to take the loss of the tire.

Can someone help me here with choosing a new tire. If i am not wrong the stock tire is Michelin HP Primacy 215/45R/17 87W. That costs roughly 200$ + fitting.
Questions>
1) Should I get a new one of stock tire
2) Do tread designs matter (what if I use one tire of different manufacturer)
3) It seems the W is for very high speeds, i do not think i will touch 149 miles with V, do I need a W tire.
4) Michelin makes ton of tires in this spec, eg M4x4, what are those for?

I do not plan to do track racing, I just like to drive spiritedly when I find empty roads, but not at speeds above 100 mph.

Any suggestions with another make of tire would also be welcome.

Thanks,
Ravi

You need to keep the W speed rating and load index, it's about more than just top speed.

I'd strongly suggest you go with the same Primacy HP unless you plan to change all 4 tires right now to something else.

Check the classifieds section. You can probably get a stock tire with about the same tread wear (if you're worried about that) for a lot cheaper than a brand new one.

Some people might be nice enough to sell you one as opposed to all four or even just two. I have 4 stock ones laying around that have about 3k miles on them that I want to sell. I'd be willing to give you one for cheap if shipping wasn't ridiculous.
