When will we get some "official" news on engine

Any idea when Toyota might give the media/consumer some idea about the engine? Will we really have to wait until Tokyo Motor Show? Man I feel like an addict waiting for his next fix.

Yeah no doubt. Just even a crumb of info would keep me satisfied for a few hours at least. Well probably not.

The amount of time I spend refreshing this forum is pretty ridiculous lol. Even more ironic when you consider that I'm not even going to think about considering to buy this (yes 2 layers of decisionmaking) until at least 3 years out.

I think they might put this one in:

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/10/s...oes-it-matter/

There is no evidence that Toyota will use this, but I think they might (unfortunately) consider this. It's a new engine, fuel efficient, and wayyy under powered. 148 hp is weak sauce.

I sort of view this as a "worse case scenario" engine.

It has been confirmed to get the D4-S injection system. That will help a lot.

I have my doubts that it will be the FB20 block or even based on it... I personally don't think it has the internal requirements they need to make the 2.0L engine they want for the FT86/FR-S for longevity sake.

We know that it will be a 2 liter flat 4. Just a matter of will it be under 200hp, 200hp, or slightly over 200hp. Besides D4S, 2liter, boxer engine, "great" mpg...what else do we know officially. I just wish we knew some more info. But I will be patient and try to wait longer.

I don't know, everything I have read from people in the auto industry points to the new FB20 as the basis of the FT-86 engine. http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car...-four-car_news Why wouldn't they use that and then tweak it for the FT-86? You really think they will design a whole new engine just for the FT-86/216a? That doesn't make economical sense.

It better not have 148hp and it better not have less than 200hp. That would definitely push the enthusiast customer away from purchasing it and make them go with another manufacture.

No there is no way Toyota would put a 148hp engine in this thing. Based on what others have said in the forum I think 170-180hp at the minimum but probably 200hp more likely. Unfortunately hp sells cars in USA and not weight:hp.

I'd take 148hp...

... if the car came in at 1000lbs.
