This is all just speculation until the Gen 2s are out for the public to pull apart. For all we know the seats come with automated dildos built in, probably not but we cant be 100% sure until the car is released to the public

Same here. I would love to throw in an IAG stage 2 block and a gen 2 transmission...power and reliability.

The AISIN gear boxes use removal bell housings so even if they were for some reason different (would be very unsubaru like if they were) it wouldn't matter too much. As for electronics, if they were different then most likely a soldering iron and heat shrink would be able to fix that easily.

I am wondering too if this is something that can be done. Been saving for a CD009 and hope this works for better reliability

I guess I am not seeing the point in swapping to a new one given the price difference unless they fixed the issues with 4th gear, which we won't see until someone actually opens one up. I am leaning towards a no, they haven't.

At this point there are not enough miles on them to even decide if they are "more reliable" anyway. They could turn out to be crap.

I really want to swap to the new gen transmission. I drove my 2014 FRS back to back with the new 2022 BRZ and the difference was night and day.

My tranny exhibits the typical slight crunchiness & troubles getting into 1st gear at a stop & 2nd is not smooth (this is with Red line trans oil).

The new 2022 was so buttery smooth and easy to use. And this was while it was freezing cold no warmup.

Damn... I had a buddy who recently had to drop his 2nd gen 86 tranny to rethread a stripped hole he caused while installing shifter springs.. should have asked him to take a picture of the bell housing. too late now

The bell housing part number is the same for 2013-2022

I will likely pick one up once they saturate the market and prices drop. There is a local one on eBay for $1800. I can get 13-16s all day long for $300-500, and 17-21s for $400-600. No way I would pay $1800 when I could buy 3-5 older transmissions for the same price. It takes 3 hours to drop the tranny taking my time.

I’ll wait to see if the improvements actually materialize into holding more power and feeling better, and I’ll wait to see if there won’t be any TSBs. Even then, a CD009 would be better at those prices until things fall.

The CD009 will hold far more torque and probably be more reliable, especially at the extremes. The only advantages to this is the slight weight penalty with the CD009 and the drop in ability. Gear ratios are similar enough.

A used CD009 can be had for reasonable prices. Ive seen new CD009s for under $2k.

The previous transmission seemed to be rated around 185tq with a real world capacity of 325-350wtq. The CD009 has a rated capacity in the 300’s from the factory, but has gone past 1200wtq in the real world. It is in a different league. Per the article below, shot peening can improve fatigue resistance and torque capacity, and I could see a 20% improvement could be good for 400wtq, and maybe more if they improved and beefed up 4th gear too, but this won’t be earth shattering numbers or greatly improve reliability at the limits. The goal isn’t to improve FI torque capacity. It was probably to improve longevity from rapid heat and torque cycles on the track. Just my guess. People were destroying transmissions on the track with NA or CARB level FI power levels. This was probably from fatigue cracks. Shot peening should add more oil protection and reduce fatigue cracks.
