So let me see if I understand -

In the newest vans, we have an idiot light to tell us to CHECK GAUGES. When we do we might see the idiot light to tell us LOW FUEL. Is that an idiot light to tell us one of our idiot lights are on?

It seems the consensus is that you can safely fill up the tank just after the fuel light comes on.

I have had the light come on twice now, once the gas station was only a few miles away and it took 10.862 gallons and the other time I did nearly 20 miles and took 10.863.

I dunno 'bout that. Last night I rallied all the way home from work and got 33.2 according to the infamously incorrect dash readout. This was with a totally full tank, filled up and then played with the car for the next 40 miles.

Never had the gas light come on, but I also don't like the fuel going below 1/4 or so.

This is how I was on my 03 Celica. I think I only ever let the fuel light come on once or twice just to see it light up! I have let my 86 fuel light come on about four times now and I am thinking I will start refilling at 1/4 tank from now on. I am getting an upgraded fuel pump installed for performance soon and would hate to burn out my upgraded pump. I probably won't have any issues having run to the empty light this few times, but who really knows if this is a real concern or not. There is a lot of fuel left in the tank when the empty light comes on so I would like to think the fuel pump is still submerged and sediment is not being sucked into the engine.

According to the manual, there still seems to be quite a bit of fuel left in the tank when the warning light comes on.

It's funny seeing posts from 2012 in here and people putting smiling faces and saying "yay" about having paid $4 a gallon of gas when it's only $2 now.
Just proof on how much the oil companies screw us at their whim.
