Bluetooth connect mutes android NAV

I've found out that the bluetooth connection is causing the android navigation speech to be muted. The only solution I have so far is to disable the connection when using my Galaxy 2 (ICS stock 4.02) for NAV.

This is with the 'upgraded' FR-S headunit.

Ideas? Seems like an android issue, possibly trying to use the BT player to stream the audio to the car?

The base unit does it as well, at least with my Droid X. The issue with mine is that when the phone is connected via BT for hands-free, it also connects for BT audio. So, you have to put the radio on BT Audio to hear the GPS, which means you either have to stream from your phone, or not listen to any other music source. With mine, this is complicated by the volume knob not working when I'm in BT Audio. You have to adjust the volume on the phone, and it does not go loud when you are above about 30MPH.

I don't use my phone often for NAV, but when I do, I've just gone to turning BT off and using the phone the old fashioned way.

Others have said that rooting your phone and getting a BT Streaming prompt on the radio fixes this, but I am "not allowed" to root my phone since I use it for my work's BYOD email functions.

Looks like this is common. I use my Nokia nav with VW BT radio. when the car and phone is connected. It seems that all phone audio is routed via BT to the radio. So there is no nav voice out of the phone. The tricky part is. Looks like because nav audio is not always there, my radio would not let me to select BT input source unless I stream music from my phone to the headunit.

It's the same for my Nexus in my 2011 Camaro. Seems like an Android thing. It even does this with Jelly Bean 4.1 which I am currently running.

On my 2010 4Runner, the radio at least gave me the option of only connecting the phone and not the BT audio player and therefore I never had any issues. It seems with the Scion radio, when you connect the phone it also connects the BT audio whether you want it or not.

How good are android double din decks?

I'm always using pandora or spotify on my phone, so using it with navigation isn't a problem.

Is it really that big of deal to disconnect BT if your listening to a CD or radio?

Well, for me, it sorta is. I would much rather be able to use the hands-free with the phone if/should I get a call. It's not a show stopper, but it is sorta a big deal.
