The 86 platform is better. The s2000 powertrain/drivetrain is better.
If only the 86 had a powerplant as stout as the s2000... sighs. I still love my FRS! It wasn't $40k new either so... Good video!

I'm more curious as to how an ofh + oft + e85 86 would match up against an s2k. Could be wrong but I feel like that would be a more fair comparison, also we wouldn't have to hear you bitch about the hassle of FI nonetheless good video haha.

Most issues people have with the 86 platform can be blamed on these factors and yet I think Subaru and Toyota deserve great credit for putting out the platform they did under those circumstances. No small feat and few if any other manufacturers seem keen on the idea on making a direct competitor. Nissan is on again, off again with no clear direction, Kia killed theirs, Hyundai is abandoning the segment and pushing upscale (fatter), Ford went all in on the lead sled concept, Honda who knows (rumors of a mid-engined S2K replacement someday). Mazda is pushing ahead but the Miata isn't a direct competitor. Just enjoy your car people or get something else if you don't. |

Sure it lacks in areas but no one else had the balls to do it. For all the nice talk we did about the Honda. That's past Honda, they don't exist anymore.

For us we did not want to play this mod vs. that mod. It was just match up the HP as close as possible, give the car brakes, suspension makeover, and real tires and see what happens. As that's what the STI cars get over the base and see what happens.

I'm just curious because most people would agree the mods I listed are the most effective/affordable/reliable in terms of power. Coming it at around 1k ish while keep the car true to its NA nature. Ultimately I'd like to how it matches up without the burden & worries of FI.

However without E85 I think the S2K will have the edge (granted E85 is limted to many consumers, it would make for a more nail-biting show), regardless it would be interesting I think it would be a tight match up. It's easily the best option if you want to stay NA, as of yet.

Amazing job on the videos. They were very informative on the comparison of both cars. What are the pros and cons of the handling of the modified FR-S over the S2000? What are the pros and cons of the handling of the S2000 over the FR-S? Would you say the handling of the S2000 is that much better than the FR-S?

Excellent videos. From someone with zero track experience, but road experience with both cars, I would have to agree that the s2000 is simply a dream, even with that minimal but beautiful interior.
For me, I just couldn't find one that didn't look destroyed to hell, and knock on wood, my BRZ is still actually very reliable despite light mods, with none of the issues you have mentioned in your video. Either way, I enjoyed watching your videos and look forward to future ones.
