Do you happen to have photos of the Mustang that you could post? The one my parents had (see post #1) was dark green with a fake hood scoop and thin decal stripes going along the entire length on both sides. It was our family car which we used for camping and ski trips - seems pretty crazy thinking back to that lol. I remember once when my dad took me skiing and there was an unplowed parking lot with maybe 8" of heavy wet snow at a store we wanted to stop at. My dad assured me that the car could drive through that, "piece of cake". And it was, too, ...until we got to the middle of the parking lot and the wheels started spinning. We got stucker and stucker until even my always-stubborn father admitted defeat and started working on Plan B, which involved survival strategies in case we had to spend the night there :P Finally a guy came along to plow the parking lot and he gave us a tow. After which he suggested to my father that in the future it might be a good idea to avoid deep snow in this particular vehicle

Learned how to drive on a brand new 69 Impala with a 3 on the tree. My first car was a 68 Road Runner when I was 18. I've owned close to 40 cars over the years, some memorable, some not so much. I've always been a car nut and I am still active in autocross and track events.

Some of the memorable cars are as follows

65 Jaguar E Type roadster
73 MG (my first new car)
78 Porsche 911 SC Targa
74 Pontiac Trams AM Super Duty 455
79 Mazda RX7
83 VW GTI
85 Honda CRX SI
88 Mustang 5.0
84 Camaro Z28
Factory Five Racing Cobra 427
06 Mazda MX5
77 VW Scirocco
More F Bodys than I can count

Drove my first car at age 6 sitting on my dad's lap driving and shifting gears on a 1950 MGTD, while my dad managed the clutch and gas. Later drove the family 1950 Mercury Coupe on an abandoned runway on Guam at age 10.Took my drivers test in the family 59 VW with an unsynchronzed first gear. First car was a 1950 Ford coupe I paid $75 for and drove into the ground. Later a 1958 Ford, 66 VW, 71 VW, 74 VW, 77 Datsun pickup, various Hondas, Camry's, Volvo 240 wagon, Acura TSX, 2 Mini Coopers, Lexus IS 250, and now the FRS. The FRS is by far the best handling of the group.

First car was a '62 MGA in British racing green. My parents didn't drive (unusual even then), so I didn't get my license and car until I was 19. A slightly older friend taught me how to drive in his MGA. The wife (we weren't married then) bought a new MGB in '68 for a little over $3000. We got a 74 Datsun 610 station wagon after our son was born, and drove that until about 78 when got a Datsun B210, which actually got 46 mpg on a cross country trip we took with it. No A/C, tiny engine- worst car I ever owned. Next was a very nice '81 Celica 2 door with a sunroof. We had a couple of trucks, Toyota and Nissan, then came the Sentra SERs, 3 in a row starting in '91, which I believe was the first model year for the SER (I remember the TV ad line-"Why should the rich guys have all the fun?"). Of the 3, the '91 was the best. There never was a small 4 cylinder inline normally aspirated engine better than the SR20DE. I gave the latest SER, '02 Vivid blue, to my grandson for his first car. All of these have been stick, and I've never owned an American made car, unless you count the Nissan truck that was made in Tennessee. I've also had a few motorcycles.

I learned how to drive on a Mercedes 300SD. Pretty sure it hit 60 in just under 20 seconds! Taught myself how to drive stick on a Toyota Pickup truck.
My first car was a mid 80s Nissan Maxima. Now that car was fast. 0-60 in 9 seconds.

Kids these days don't know how good they have it. Today a minivan will do 0-60 faster than a late 70s/early 80s Corvette!

How true. My last Miata was an '02 and if I remember correctly it was only 1/10th of a second slower 0-60 than my '71 Corvette was.

Ah yes Some of you have memories that go back several notches further than mine but I can remember when the average car on the road was not capable of even reaching the speed limit, let alone exceeding it.

43 here, so I'm on the low end of the old guy club qualifications. But what I lack in age I make up for with curmudgeonlyness.

First car 1967 Ford Galaxie I bought from my friends parents after it was rear ended for 75 bucks, learned to drive in my older brothers (manual of course) Datsun p/u. The concept of a clutch wasn't a problem for me as I was actively racing Motocross at the time.....I'm 53 .

There are so many more till I got Bit by the Subie bug... I distinctly remember driving one of the '68's all winter in snow, heck I thought that was fun! With the BRZ, I'm kinda wondering what all that Traction control and VDC is for? we used to do that by ourselves, It's called DRIVING the car!! LOL

Really enjoying this thread!

I learned to drive on a wide variety of farm equipment/trucks, so when i got my first car, I was really ready for some fun. The early cars, in order, were:

'65 Pontiac GTO, 389
'64 Jaguar E Type
'69 Mustang Mach 1
'73 Triumph TR6
'88 Nissan 240SX SE

Various other rides for transportation/utility/family...

'02 Mazda Pretege 5
'12 FRS!

My favorite was the E Type. I gave it a frame up restoration, and had it for 18 years. I was fun to drive something that you had touched every part in.

Really enjoying the new FRStoo. This car seems like a modern embodyment of the '50s, '60s, and '70s sports cars that had great handling and a respectable amount of power. Actually, the FRS has almost as much power as that old Jag, which in it's day was one of the most powerful you could buy. It's great to have that kind of driving option again.

How does that work? Point me in the right direction and I'll do it! Also, suggestions for a name are welcome if anyone has any ideas. Do we like the name Old Timers Club, for instance?
