I hope it's in person somewhere. Virtual/online reveals are incredibly lacking IMO.

Its an increased output FA24 (presumably)

That has a 6000 RPM redline in the Ascent as well.

Doesnt seem like it that motor was designed with high RPM in mind.....

Maybe it will run on regular gas like the Ascent.

Backwards step from an enthusiast/driver engagement perspective IMO.

You might be jumping the gun. We need to wait for the specs. Maybe there is some orange before the red. Probably not, but maybe. The Ascent has a hard red before 6k, but this STI might has a fading red that builds progressively darker to redline.

These days the turbos are smaller for more immediate torque, and they fall off. I think with quicker transmissions, the rpms might be less necessary, especially for a turbo that has a smaller range of thermal efficiency, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the car had such a low redline. Especially considering the EJ25 had a much shorter stroke—stroke probably accounting for more forces than the slightly larger diameter/weight pistons in the EJ.

Subaru Ascent

GR Supra with 7k redline

So it is lol. That’s got to be an error, unless the next WRX is a tractor.

A CGI error? It appears to be fixed...

The shift in the video near the 6200 redline suggests that 6200 might be the redline for the WRX. Would a 2.4L STI have a similar or higher redline than the 2.0L? Maybe.

the engineers at subaru are going to finally seperate the designs of the wrx and the STI. I have no doubt that the release of the WRX on Thursday is going to be a massive disappointment. iwould love to see the STI come out close to the concept cars in the recent past. Have to say though they took too long to come out with a new version. looking more forward to the Z release tomorrow.

Yeah that's DEFINITELY not happening. BTW before the last generation WRX came out Subaru loudly trumpeted that the WRX was going to diverge greatly in appearance from the Impreza. (that didn't happen btw).

Keep in mind this is the same company that says they can't afford to develop a sedan AND hatchback version of the WRX.
