If you're paying for a tuner to tune your car, EcuTek is probably going to end up being cheaper.

The tablet is ~$500 US, plus their time to tune it. If they're learning the RomRaider tuning software while they're tuning it's going to take much longer than using the tools they're compfortable with.

EcuTek cable/license is about $650 US, the cost difference is going to be made up with about an hour of dyno/tuning time, I would bet it takes more than an hour longer to do the tuning using OFT than using EcuTek.

Whoever you go with, ask them how many FRS/BRZ's they've tuned with a similar configuration to yours. You don't want to be the guinea pig.

If they would tune with OFT that would save a bunch of people a fair amount of cash.

I had Ultimate Racing exhaust for my 05 STi. I got it installed and tuned at Definitive a few years back (2012 IIRC) before my FRS. He does a lot of WRX and STi tunes.

I just talked to Mike to inquire about the Ultimate Racing exhaust for the FRS and pricing for Ecutek. He says he tries not to do installations during this time of year because he is busy with tunes unless you want a full turbo install or just a bolt on CAI or something.

Found out also that Definitive tunes the Canadian Touring Car Championship Factory Honda and a couple of CSCS cars and just did a BRZ Turbo.

Two days and still no reply from Sasha.

Maybe I don't understand how he works, or I am anxious but how long would he take to reply to an appointment request??

I had quick responses to all of my emails from Sasha, but I was in contact with him around Jan-Feb, not during race season. You can see his schedule on his website. He's a pretty busy dude this time of year. http://www.onpointdyno.com/?p=2414

I requested an appt on a block that is not yet booked. Maybe he dodnt like my asking if he could do an OFT tune though I did say if not I would go with Ecutek.

Dropped the car off at iGarage this evening. Ivan seems like a nice guy. Hopefully he'll do a great job. He said Sasha is probably super busy, gotta be patient and wait to hear from him. In the meantime I have the HKS F-Con which will provide a safe tune, just not up to its full potential.

Ivan always seems to have a few twins outside his shop. I've gone to him a few times and he always comes through. I didn't know he worked with someone in that area for tuning, unless he's just doing to SC install?

Correct, he's handling the install, which include the HKS F-Con piggyback for the ecu to make the car drivable until its custom tuned.

Wil you also have the cold start high idle adjusted as well as the valve timing to reduce noise at cold startup?

Sasha WILL NOT do a tune with openflash tablet. I would look for a dyno place that will tune using ROMRaider which are few and far between. If you want a custom tune I would 100% recommend Sasha. He will even rent you the cable so all you need is tune and cable which iirc is in the region of $800 for N/A and $1200 for FI. tbh if you buy the tablet ($700 CDN) then get a full tune ($4-700) you are looking at minimum the same cost. The only downside for N/A guys is that the dealer will forever know your ecu has been tuned whereas with open flash you can just flash oem tune whenever you want (for dealer visits).
