Volumetric efficiency is a physics term and is constrained by physic laws ...not some ECU code unless it affects air volume intake on each cycle with additional fuel ....... like turbo boost
I beg to differ - these engines (as do many of the 2008+ higher end Subarus) have dual AVCS - intake advance and exhaust retard, controlling the cam overlap - and it most certainly is controlled by the ECU. In fact, AVCS is extensively referenced in the, over and above just the AVCS tables. And this most certainly does alter volumetric efficiency.

This is no exageration, a certain Anban-ZN is scaring the local turbos. Im not refering to tuned turbos they kill an 86.
Here's some samples of RGM SC vs NA taken from my car.
I don't know how to edit videos, so they're recorded off my TV.

These are both lightly modded NA cars, say 115-120wkw.
IMO 139wkw for an NA car is quite achievable and baie lekker, but not even half way to bridging the gap to an RGM SC car...

Cool, but we're also talking 1/4 or less of the money of course. Up here SC makes more sense I reckon.

There have been multiple software upgrades since the FT's were released. If I'm not mistaken, the local cars run the EDM calibrations, so in sequence, these have been the software CAL ids released to date:

ZA1J700K; ZA1J900K; ZA1JA00K; ZA1JA01K; ZA1JB00K; ZA1JB01K; ZA1JD00K (which is the latest).

The most significant substantive changes to the calibrations have been significant edits to the transient ignition tables (the ecu pulls ignition timing on sharp throttle changes, i.e. gear changes. Too much timing was causing shift knock and blowing DI seals, so it was retarded much more) and secondly changes in various areas of the logic relating to idle stability.

Yup, my incredibly scientific opinion is FI > NA. That may be because I'm addicted to boost...

Repeat after me - boost is the best... boost is the best... boost is the best...

LOL! It is addictive indeed and I want more!! If you've got a VF43 laing around, you know where to find me.

That being said, I prefer the power delivery of a nicely sorted N/A engine, it's just a pity the small ones are so asthmatic up here.

Hi guys.

I last had my software updated last year June. ZA1JA01G

I'm guessing the last character, 'K' & 'G' is just a province thing. Anyway. For the guys in JHB, is there a newer software version since the one I updated to?
ZA1JA01G

Also, if you could provide a Toyota dealership that's done this for you I'd be grateful. The dealerships I've dealt with in
the past had no clue that there was even an update to begin with.

Thanks

ZA1JA01G
The end letter is the region code - so G is actually the Australian calibration, and K is the European one (which is what the local Subarus normally get).

Somebody will have to chime in on what calibration the dealers are loading locally, but there is definitely a ZA1JD00G released with the new 2015 models. Incidentally, with the A01G Cal that you have, the most important issue, which is the transient ignition timing retard, has been sorted.

Does anyone know of a locally manufactured header for the 86? or the average cost of importing this? Ie. Is Borla the only real option? Anyone else tried others?

I called RMS yesterday, they said they are working on a locally manufactured Header and catback, sounds exciting, but that means waiting for R&D that they are doing...

None that I'm aware of. Speak to Powerflow.

HKS makes a bloody stunning header for these cars. JDL as well but neither of them are cheap.
