OFT IAM issue

2 times now (of course i wasn't logging during either....) i have had my IAM drop to a .88 while everything else has remained normal at least to my novice eye.

Not much but the info i have:
1. Both times it was coming home at night with IAT ~60, oil temps were normal(car had already been running for at least 10 min so everything was up to temp) and fuel trims were good. Those are the ones i remember offhand.
2. Both times it happened while i was slowing down to a red light. It stayed at a .88 during the light amd probably 2 minutes after it was back up to 1 and the issue has not happened outside of those 2 times which were about a week apart.
3. Both times i backed out of the data display screen and then went back in to it to force the screen to refresh to see if it was just a bug but it stayed at the .88 for another minute or so before going back up to 1

About 3 weeks ago i did have my IAM drop to 0 while driving. It freaked me out but i backed out of the display screen and when i went back in it was back at 1 so i believe that was just a glitch.

Outside of a log are there some other things i can do to make sure i don't have any problems? I have had the OFT plugged in literally everytime i drive the car since the first .88 and it has only happened twice so im hoping it is just a glitch or faulty sensor. I am still running e85 even though temperatures are getting pretty low and the only modifications i have made to the OTS tune are the cold crank adjustments. My OFT is on the most current software and i am using the most current tune.

After that longwinded explanation, anyone have a similar experience or possible way to test if it is just a bad reading? Is the colder weather with e85 possibly causing this? Obviously a log will help so i would like to stay on e85 long enough to try and get a log of it happening before going back to 93 for the winter.

Thanks for any input!

I don't have a lot of helpful advice, but I'm sure it's coming soon.

What I will say is that my car would drop that low on IAM on the original tune! (Which I have run a couple of weeks just to look at the "Baseline" on OFT.)
So....Don't freak out!

i think you will find its minor knock in the 1500-3000 rpm range at light throttle cruising then you accelerate slightly probably arroind 0?6 to 0.8 engine load that causing it, its not a big drama

I just realized that I don't even have throttle set as one of the channels on my normal screen

While we are talking about the channels, is there a way to manually rearrange them on the table screen? My slight OCD would love to have IAM next to the ignition advance, FLKC next to knock correction and so on.

Thanks again for your help

I dont think the order can be re-aranged

add IAT intake air temp to list, you can get knock due hight IAT on some fuels

If you worried about not starting on E85 in winter try the cranking tables in this thread

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83945

we dont get much below 50F but with those tables its starts first crank on fuel that about E90 at under 50F, if your E85 has a lower E content it should start at temps way below that

Been using the suggested tables, 54 this morning and car started without issue. Big improvement

Don't know if you know this but...
If you touch the screen on a channel it will give a larger, three channel readout screen and you can put what you like where you want it!

Touch the screen again to go back to normal screen view. Log recording will not change....it's just the viewing that changes.

CDO for life!!!

Yep, i use that feature all the time! I really wish it allowed 5 readouts on that page. IMHO They could move the title at the top of the 3 reading layout into the bottom box and slightly compress it to fit 4 smaller windows above.

Maybe for shits and giggles i'll mock it up when i get home

some fuel is worse than others
stock tune will knock quite a bit on 91 gas

iam less than one is ecu's normal reaction to poor fuel

you will have to mod your stage 1 tune slightly to get the IAM to stay at one all the time see here

Does it start at 0.35 or 1 and drop to 0.35? If it's the former then it's probably a template/update issue on the OFT.

yep good point,
@shaynek make sure your running latest open flash manager and update template file from oft site

it usually shows zero on previous template mismatches but anything is possible on out of date template files.
