Because society these days sucks. No one has manners anymore. We get the answer we think we want, and just run with it. Compile that with laziness, and that's what we have here; unable or unwilling to show gratitude no matter how easy it is.

I don't think so. I'm not denying the "me first" effect of the late 20th century but I'm not sure it applies here.

I see a small set of people who have posted hundreds, maybe thousands of times who, by any reasonable conclusion, must consciously choose to not push it. What motivates that?

Ok fine, I'll take a stab at it. First I'll get the disclaimer out of the way that is to say there are probably many reasons, bla, bla, bla. Mostly though I think it is just not part of their psyche. It's not a deliberate decision say out of spite or a sense of superiority but that it simply does not occur to them. I think the act of selecting that button is something learned of habit and therefore the opposite also holds true.

Personally, it typically doesn't even cross my mind for some reason. I rarely like things on facebook, thumb up videos on youtube, and give thanks on here. I'm horrible with any sort of social media though.

These are well-spoken, intelligent people. The button stares us in the face at every post. How could someone who has taken the time to learn how to upload and link media miss the thanks button? It doesn't make sense.

I want to believe the idea that it is not a part of their psyche but even that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It takes work for me to not feel grumpy about it.

So I figured what the hell, maybe someone else finds it interesting.

I immediately thank anyone that quotes me or answers a question I've asked, unless the quote is to say something mean, then I just ignore them. So there's that.

That's my issue too. Been doing forums (and past incarnations) so long it doesn't even occur to me. It's a relatively new thing and you km now what they say about teaching an old dog new tricks... That said, I'm working on it. I think so far I've just managed to thank people that corrected some bone headed mistake I made in a response.
