In the market...2013 w/ TRD Exhaust&Intake on Window Sticker
Hello All!
As some of you may have read already, I am in the market for a FR-S. I have been lurking on the board and browsing the local dealers. I lent a hand to a fellow mid atlantic member over the weekend with an exhaust install on his FR-S, in exchange for chatting about them. None the less I was at a local dealer today that had a 13 FR-S with fog lights, spoiler, TRD exhaust and Intake among various other odds and ends, all of which were on the window sticker. She had 9 miles on her and we took it out for a little test drive. Didnt go over 45 or over 3.5k rpms. I get it back to the dealer and notice a decent amount of white smoke coming from the tailpipes. Smelled like new exhaust/engine stuff burning off, but I have not seen something like that, to that extent before. Any one else with a brand new one notice that kind of smoke before? The exhaust sounded so damn good! But really $1k for the TRD?? I currently have a 91 MR2, which I bought in 97. Should I make the move??? |

Hi ya ......
Well, if you like your MR2, good chance you will like the FR-S. Does it have the "right" transmission for you and is it a pleasing color (to you)? Are the "add ons" something that you would have done it the future? If two out three are yes ..... I'd go for it. However I'd take it for a longer test drive to see if it stops "smoking" .... humfrz |

Smoking is normal and will stop after 100 miles tops.
As for the TRD exhaust $1k is actually on the cheap side(at a dealer) for it being already installed. But I guarantee you can negotiate the price down regardless of "pure pricing". I got my FR-S at over $500 off by simply telling them I was not going to pay for an upgrade they put on it and I did not want. |

My TRD exhaust had that smoke and funky smell for first 2-3 days - normal. Sounds like a nice machine with all the add ons that I would want. I would do what tennisfreak said, tell them you really want that badboy but dont care for the add ons. If you can get them to do pure pricing like it had no add ons then go for it. Add ons alone are around $2,500 give and take. GL!

I had the smoke once awhile back. I have the stock exhaust and no smoke since.

I just installed my full Nameless headerback exhaust and it stinks... gotta break in new exhausts. They'll stink for a few weeks then get quieter and not smell.

Just picked up an old 86 mr2. Lots of fun and comparable to the frs. If you can afford it why not?

You know what my opinion is. Go for it! Forget the jeep. Where did you look? Jones or Jerrys?
