ok, i'm smelling something funky going on.

been looking at getting a new truck. a used dealer in the area has had 10 'available' on their site for quite a while. went camping this weekend with the parents closer than i'm normally at to 2 of their 3 locations.

so i went by the 2 lots to get eyes on the trucks i was potentially interested in. what i found instead was of the 10 trucks they say they have, each lot had 1 parked outside. 2 of the trucks are listed at the location i didn't visit, so maybe they exist.. but there should've been 6 trucks for me to look at one location, and 2 at the other.

both locations have a large on-site indoor showroom, as well as large mechanics garages. i guess it's possible that they put the other 6 trucks indoors? seems unlikely though.

getting the feeling they sell something, and it tends to live on within the site to garner other hits as a bait-and-switch.. making me think it was a good thing i went on a day they were officially closed so i didn't have to deal with waiting on a salesperson..

Well, there's a chance they have storage lots hiding things away somewhere.
However, when their big advertised price EXCLUDES your minimum down payment/trade-in, I'm gonna go with shady as f***, since that's your money they're pretending you don't have to pay.
Also I think I may give up on cars. Stuff is getting so insanely expensive.

agreed. their prices are moderate at best at the 'discounted' rate, without that, they're just outright gouging. i was planning on selling the old truck myself to maximize my return, and i do pre-approval through my own sources so i don't need to deal with their agents, so it'd be a straight deal with no trade-in... i usually start haggling about $5k lower just so they feel they can attempt to meet in the middle. i keep looking at carvana as well just because of their premise to be simple and upfront about stuff.

if car dealers didn't suck so bad, it wouldn't be so terrible replacing vehicles.

That's the problem with priding myself on trying to be honest and upfront with customers. I tend to expect it from others..
