Isn't engine oil basically a carcinogen and it's typically recommended to use work gloves while handling it?

Oh yes, Mt Hamilton Road, my favorite road to terrorize in my MGB, back in the early 70s. I had a neighbor that had an older Porsche and he and I would race to the top, starting at Grant Lake. Even though he was a lousy driver, he usually beat me. I guess I should have changed the oil in my car before we raced ….

Heavier weight oil interval change

For my recent track day I went up to 05-30w, which is heavier weight than stock. But according to the shop that did some work, including the oil change, it should be due for another oil change after about 4 months or 3-4k miles. That's quicker than factory spec.

Do intervals usually matter when it comes to the viscosity of the oil currently sitting in the car or no? The reason I ask is because I'm wondering if I can go by the standard, manual interval for our car or if I am required to follow the interval the shop wrote on the windshield sticker.

Thanks!

Have a look around this forum for some used oil analyses. UOA’s are posted on this forum under tracked conditions going even beyond the manufacturers recommended intervals.

MYTH: When motor oil becomes dark, that means it's time to change it.

This is not true. You cannot determine the life of motor oil by looking at its appearance since it may change color for several reasons. To ensure the best quality product, the best oil change tip is to always follow your vehicle’s owner's manual guidelines for oil change intervals.

Welp, that depends upon whether or not you are a mouse. If you are a mouse and bath for 365 days or longer in used motor oil, you may get cancer.

My abstract of one abstract from one scientific study says:

"Long-term exposure (365 days or longer) of the skin to used mineral-based crankcase oil causes skin cancer in mice."

Your call ...
