Toyota 86 in South Africa (NOW WITH SA CONFIRMED PRICING!)
It seems that ordering will open tomorrow (17th May 2012) for Toyota SA dealerships, according to the local released PDF.

Just heard the rumor (from a reliable source) …
Toyota 86 Standard MT (86A) = R298k Toyota 86 High MT (86B) = R329k Toyota 86 High AT (86C) = R346k About where I expected (hoped) it to be. Hope this will be confirmed by the press soon. Yip, that's how we get ripped off on cars here in South Africa.
Actually I am reasonably happy with the price. Just to illustrate my point. The previous BMW 3 series was manufactured here in Pretoria, shipped to, and then sold in the USA at a lower cost than what we payed for it here. On a different note, I do however understand that our insurance costs are lower than the States. In fact, it is not even compulsory to have insurance if you don't finance the car. |

In the steel.
Finally! Got to visit with an 86 in the steel this afternoon.
My greatest surprise? The sound. I loved the grown up, bold, growl of the 2l boxer. Interior looks good, but to the touch, it can feel a tad cheap. Seems all the cars here in Johannesburg are either White Pearl, or silver. Last edited by SAP; 07-16-2012 at 06:19 PM. Reason: add info |
