LJ, I'm going to say lifter tick judging by the noise. The car was sitting for quite a while, time enough for something like that to happen.

I actually was just at a SoFlo meet a few weeks back witnessing another car, same issue/sound, stuck lifter.

Well, I had accepted the shortcomings of the tune as "well, I wanted to modify my car, so this is the price I have to pay".

rom that moment and until now I have learned that there is NO price to pay, and my turbo car CAN drive exactly like a stock car did while cruising meaning:

No Idle Dip
No stutter part throttle
Startup like a champ everytime I turn the key

Add to that list:

NO 16 PSI of boost at part throttle.

So after learning with @jamesm what encompasses tuning and how ALL of the aforementioned issues CAN be tuned out, I was not happy with that tune.

agreed. there is absolutely no reason to sacrifice anything whatsoever when tuning one of these cars. others without di, maybe (big injectors cause idle issues etc., which we're immune to).

we tune these cars to improve them in every area, not just WOT power. if your car doesn't run better than it did when you started, 100% of the time, then you have more work to do. that's the entire point of tuning, to improve every aspect of the stock vehicle's performance, drivability and reliability.

our platform is blessed with the ability to improve upon all of these regardless of the mechanical configuration. we should take advantage of this, rather than simply saying 'you gotta pay to play' and accepting issues as 'normal'.

Hope it works out, but I'd be surprised if you get anything from him.

I wonder what the fun factor difference is between a properly tuned 86 vs a factory mapped 86...

Hm. I'll have to keep reading up on signs of a bad tune before I go to @Drift-Office. Helps to know what your looking at before you make a judgment call. I still think @jamesm should offer a tuning dictionary (hopefully stickied) for those looking for more info out of curiosity

drift office has a great reputation. i'd feel confident in their tuning. then again, everyone had a great reputation at one point or another, so if the tune's locked and you didn't do it yourself you'd never really know. i'd be comfortable going to them, though.

if only someone would sell unlocked tunes so people could be sure of what they're getting...
